I wouldn't even tell Monty that he's fired. Let him come in for practice one day and have Karl already there, running shite.

i feel bad for the guy. i'm not sure what it is, but he just can't get it right with this team. not sure if it's his philosophy or what, but it just doesn't click. he will get picked up as an assistant a day after he gets fired, and he will be a head coach again before 2020.

What about ai? The team would be fresh every game because you know they wouldn't practice.

I hopped off the Monty train tonight as well. I had high hopes for him because he always had his players play hard but little talent. Now he has talent but can't get it done. The sooner the better

Hopefully he takes Dell Demps with him. This team is atrocious for the amount of money some guys are making.

What I don't understand is how the team can consistently dominate the first half's of games and get blown out in second. I honestly don't see it as a talent issue so Dell is safe for now. It has to be on Monty. At least I hope it is because if not we're screwed for the next few seasons.

Rome wasn't built in a day and this is clearly a roster in transition. It's fairly likely that signing Tyreke wasn't about creating an expensive redundancy but providing a path to move on from Gordon. Now if you don't think Evans is a good solution to SG, then you should hold that against Demps, but saying he sucks because he can't execute a multiseason plan in one offseason is stupid.

talent isnt the problem

When there are consistent problems year to year, that falls on the coaching philosophy...

It's going to be so painful when our 1st rd is in the 6-10 range.

You fire Monty you lose your first round pick next season.

The mindset of other NBA teams already trying to tank for next season will not land them a top 5 pick with this team. So not only will you lose your coach but you will lose your pick and possibly have players like EG and others to just quit on the team from here on out. Most likely see some wanting to be traded.

the 1st next season is a moot point. it's gone. should not impact any decisions this year.

Look at the Western standings. Yes, we are only 9 games in--but you can tell a lot from the start. You swap Houston and Phx in the top 8 and that's your playoff teams.

Only shot we got is if Portland starts losing. Then it's us, Mem, and Lakers fighting for the 8th slot.

What Dell does around the trade deadline this year will be key. Ryno and either EG/Evans need to get moved..IMO

I will wait for Ryno to come back and til half the season is gone by. Teams take time to build chemistry and Anderson is one of our best players offensively.

So we're going to move our best players sans AD? What are we accomplishing? LeBron sweepstakes? If we continue to lose once Monty is gone then sure, blow it up and start over again.

The public perception for the value received in star trades for the Hornets and Thunder changed dramatically when what was thought to be a possible top 5 pick ended up being much higher. I guarantee you the hotness of Demps' seat next summer, if he still has a seat, will be in part determined by whether Philly is picking closer to 6 or closer to 11. If the team is in danger of finishing in the mid lottery, you either have to go all in Karl or a trade, or go all in on tanking. On the plus side, staying out of the top 10 only requires about a .400 winning percentage, so even if Anderson only makes the team 20% better, that should be enough to make the pick 10th or worse.

Teams do not win the in NBA with $20M tied up in bench players.

Ryno is our best tradeable asset and needs to be moved for a starting 3 or 5.

One of the guards has to go. The only way this trio will work is if Tyreke can play the 3. Either he can't, or Monty is too dumb to try it.

You can't trade Evans, b/c that looks terrible to any potential FA.

I understand that Ryan Anderson coming back will help the offense and space the floor on that end, but since when did he become an impact defensive player? Defense really is the biggest issue with the team right now (though the offense is a close second). Guys are doubling on every ball handler and helping way too much.

If the Pelicans were playing any other team last night, that defensive performance on the 3-point line would have yielded about 20-30 more points. John Lucas III had 6 wide open 3PA, but thanks to his ineptitude he missed them all. Marvin Williams had some good looks early and missed, but heated up at the end. Gordon Hayward is a very good player, and he was wide open for several 3s which he drained. Richard Jefferson looked like an All-Star shooting 3s and rolling down the lane untouched.

There are so many things wrong with how this roster is being used that it's comical. However, I don't think I'm ready to give up on Monty. It's probably not merited, but I really like him a lot and I think he can be really good. If his team continues to play like this though, I don't think it matters if he has 3 years left on his deal. Benson and Demps did not put this much time or money into the roster for the team to be playing this poorly.
