BSS Podcast

This week BSS had a Sacramento blogger to talk about all of our former Sacramento players. LINK
Bullet Points:
* Jimmer has a big fan base.
* Jimmer will score if you give him shots, not good on defense and does not like contact.
* Salmons is above average on defense and is a good 3 point shooter. Fits the limited role we have for him very well. Is a quiet leader in the locker room.
* Tyreke had all kinds of shooting coaching and specialists brought in while in Sacramento. He is what he is, just tell him to attack the basket and you'll get good results.
* Eric Gordon was "working the room" at Summer League. He noticed him sitting next to Chris Mullin (Kings owner's right hand man) and "working the room". Was Gordon chatting up a childhood hero, or trying to gauge his value if he opts out?
* Ryan Anderson is a luxury and we'd be better off trading him to Sacramento for Jason Thompson and/or Derrick Williams.

Only if they'll trade Cousins for Rivers

When I think of luxury, this is not the type of trade I had in mind for Ryno

I guess fan base in the league think they are just going to rip us off for Anderson.

I'm sure that comment was purely tongue-in-cheek.

We shouldn't budge on any trades unless we are offered magic beans.

It really wasn't. I think he knew it was lopsided and wishful thinking on his part, but it came in the context of saying they like Rudy Gay so a Gay 3way with Gordon and Josh Smith wasn't happening, but he thought the Kings and Pels made good potential trading partners. With Asik starting, Ryno is under utilized and Sac has some more appropriate bench bigs that they'd graciously give us for our superior player.

Well then, I'll take everything else he said with a grain of salt.

He actually seemed like he knew his team pretty well, why does him wanting to steal Anderson mean he'd give us inaccurate info about Tyreke/Jimmer/Salmons? Wanting to steal Anderson has been normal behavior of opposing fans from the moment we got him.

I was just taking a cheap shot at him.

On a side note: you are a champ for sitting through a BSS podcast and providing cliffs for the rest of us.

I listen to them. Its not like we have much to choose from when it comes to NBA or Pelicans podcast

Just lurking on most other teams' message boards over the past year or so, every single fanbase seems to think we should just give them Ryan Anderson, for their scraps. 'Cause stretch 4s are cool and stuff.

I've been saying this. I really think our fan base and maybe the Pels organization are over-valuing Ryan Anderson. Sell high - buy low. That is rule number one.
Remember that one time we over-valued EG because he was "our" guy... Ya that didn't work out so well. I would not be mad if the team shipped out Ryno for a serviceable SF and a draft pick. I think Memphis with Q-Pon or the Bulls with Snell would be fine trades for me. Batum of course would be amazing but "dat aint happen"

With Monty's offense we need his 3 point creation ability perhaps more than any other team. If anything people that are valuing Ryno by his NBA2K score rather than his fit are under valuing him.

Jason Thompson on a bad contract is selling low. Asik for Ryno and Batum for Ryno are the only 2 proposals I've seen that come close to returning non garbage.

I think Memphis with Q-Pon
You are insane if you would be happy trading Ryno for QPon.

There would be 20 teams bidding on Anderson if we actually put him on the block. It would be a disaster to accept "a serviceable SF and a draft pick" for someone that valuable.

I mean if you take everything out of context sure.
I see his value on the team but I think it could be replaced. To me his central value is spacing, there are other options that can provide that at the 4. If we needed a legit 4, then he would have a lot more value. We don't, we need a spacer.
Ya I never said trade Ryno for Jason Thompson. We agree that is garbage.
Maybe but I doubt it. If Memphis offered Q-Pon and a first round draft pick for Ryno or if Chicago offered Snell and a first round draft pick - I would take the deal. Those deals give the Pels a legit starter at the 3. Maybe not All-Star caliber starters but a long term piece for sure.
The bench would suffer a little with: Reke - Jimmer - Salmons - Babbitt - Ajinca/Young. But whatever we saw last year that Reke is capable of carrying the offense, night in and night out with basically those players around him.
In contrast how much better does the starting five look with: Jrue - EG - Q-Pon/Snell - AD - Asik.
