Is Filipowski from Duke the best potion for us at center in this draft?

If so, it looks like we’d have to trade to get him. Yall think it would be worth it?

That dude is the most unswitchable big ever. If people think Jonas can’t switch, this dude is like 10 times worse. No way Willie would want him.

There's actually a lot of cetners that are going to be available around that 20th pick.

Guys that aren't going in the top 10:
Zach Edey Purdue Senior 7'3" 306lb
Kel'el Ware Indiana Sophmore 7' 210lb
Yves Missi Baylor Freshman 7' 235lb
Oso Ighodaro Marquette Senior 6'11" 235lb
Tyler Smith G-League 6'11" 225lb
Filipowski Duke Sophmore 7' 230lb
Daron Holmes Dayton Junior 6'10" 230lb

I would not be interested in any freshman, or anyone from the G-League.
Edey and Ware are unlikely to be close to where we pick.

I like Holmes and he's projected in the 20's.

quote:

Shot blocking is his best defensive skill. He’s agile in small spaces and perceptive; he keeps his head on a swivel and hustles for second and third efforts on possessions. He also can step out as a disruptive perimeter defender who slides his feet with his arms spread wide.

Intelligent player who embraces his role as a screener, cutter, and rim runner. He always boxes out. After defensive stops he’ll instantly sprint up the floor and have his hands up to catch passes. And if he doesn't receive the ball, he doesn't mope.

His 3-point percentage is way up. He shot 26.9 percent over his first two seasons, but he’s at 43.6 percent this year on quadruple the attempts per game. His form looks a tad quicker and smoother than the elongated release he used in previous years.

Excellent pick-and-roll finisher who sets strong screens at the proper angles and has great timing on his rolls to the rim. He also has soft hands that allow him to catch tough passes and the athleticism to finish powerful dunks.

Griff is gonna trade Nance, resign Val and draft Eady to teach Willie a lesson about closing with Nance over Val these last 2 games!!

Another option is to bring back the Robbins kid if he's fully recovered by then. Wouldn't mind him as a 2 way option.

Yves Misi or Clingan would be such a win for us. Clingan is gonna go too high for us so I’m gonna just hope we draft Misi

Karlo also has been tearing up the gleague. I feel like he may be part of the solution as well.

I expect Karlo to be in the mix, but I'm not quite sure what his defensive range is. It's hard to tell when he plays with a shitty defensive gleague team.

I’d like to have seen him on the court by this point, or just more Robinson-Earl during games where we go up big. Willie doesn’t seem into that in the slightest though. He never wants to experiment with new players in game to see what we have. Kind of mind boggling to see us up 25 with starters still in the game

I don’t think Karlo was ever going to get called up this year honestly. JRE has played some center this year with mixed results.

One could say the same about Larry nance. I’m not saying anyone gets valuable team minutes, but when you have essentially a 2 big rotation, any minutes are valuable. What if either of nance or Val gets hurt? We’d be fricked. We should have another big who has played enough minutes to trust them to an extent in an important game

Drafting a center may seem tempting, but it may carry the highest risk of a bust.

I've watched a good amount of Karlo in the Squad games and he's a solid prospect to at least be a rotation guy off the bench.

At 6'10" he's a decent athlete who gets up and down the floor. Is good in the pick and roll and finishes aggressively at the rim. He has a smooth shot out to beyond the three point line, but can post up and score as well. As a defender, he offers some rim protection and can hold his own when switching on to smaller players.

I don't know that he has top level defensive instincts and can be caught ball watching sometimes, but he certainly has the tools to be a good defender in our system. His rebounding is just ok.

I think he's as good a prospect as most of the guys you could draft and he looks ready to me to at least give you 10-15 minutes off the bench every night. With his outside shot and athleticism he presents a decent amount of upside as well...

I guaran-damn-tee that Clingan will be a way better NBA player than Edey.

I think Chomche could be an interesting project but definitely not a day 1 starter.

Idk why we would even consider a guy like Edey. He could be a solid NBA player but he clearly isn't built to play the type of defense that Willie wants to play.

In my limited viewing, Missi, Ighodaro, Holmes seem like the 3 most likely to be able to move their feet enough to actually get on the court and play 25+ minutes for us.

Clingan is probably my favorite center but he'll be gone way before us imo.

He's not built for any NBA defense unless he finds a time machine.

at time it can when you draft dumb. It's not often the young, raw high upside guy works out.
If they can't shoot, they better be excellent defenders that don't foul. If they can't defend well, they better have a legit skill on offense. and all of that should be seen clearly in college, no "well he has potential for this" crap.
