Don't recall seeing this posted but this is pretty cool.

He definitely needs to improve, especially at the line, but this is a guy you root for. Looks like he works too hard and has too good a head on his shoulders not to succeed.

Hard to believe that a kid that devoted to his craft is so mediocre at the line.

I've come to the conclusion that it has to be a mental thing with him

He's thinking too much out there, especially at the line

There's no way a coaches son with a solid work ethic doesn't practice a shite ton of free throws, so he has the form and the practice reps to make them, I think he's just too worried about missing them, so he misses them. Self-fulfilling prophecy.

He actually has pretty terrible form and that's a big part of what's holding him back.

He keeps both hands behind the ball, which is the basis of that magical chicken wing

In comparison:

He has horrible form on free throws. And shots in general. Really the only thing I like about the kid is his crossover.

Bookmark it again fear he sucks.

I don't think it nullifies everything you said. The guy is clearly a hard worker. You're only going to get so consistent with poor form. With proper form you have one hand pushing the ball directly where you want it to go. His form results in both hands pushing in slightly different directions with resultant force hopefully pushing it where you want it to go.

It can be overcome. The most successful player with similar poor form is Shawn Marion. His FT% was all over the place. It went as high as .851 and as low as .690 (giggity). That's what I expect from Rivers, but Marion came in hitting at a decent clip. Not sure Rivers will ever be above 80%.

repetition is key. as long as he has the same shot every time, it doesn't matter how you hold the ball.

Everyone claims he is a gym rat, so he gets the repetition, but the results haven't been there. Repetition is only going so far when the form is fundamentally flawed.

I beg to differ. Miller had slightly odd form, but it still kept the traditional basis. With Rivers, it comes down to physics and force vectors.

Miller's worst year from the stripe was .801 his rookie year. That would be a huge improvement for Rivers.

Let them walk: Austin Rivers, Thomas Robinson, and Meyers Leonard. These players have done little to demonstrate their ability to compete in the NBA. It is highly unlikely that this changes in 2015. The cap and roster flexibility offered by clearing them in 2016 seems an easy choice. These cases are likely less controversial than the third-year options I recommended waiving. All three may ultimately have their options picked up, but there is at least serious consideration in New Orleans and Portland about how to handle these players.
