Over the offseason, the Hawks pitched a similar concept of Collins to New Orleans for Trey Murphy and first-round draft compensation, sources said, although Duarte’s current league-wide value does appear lower than that of Murphy.

Seems to be the only Pels related news from Jake Fishers newest article. I wonder who else would have been involved for salary matching? Trey, Graham and Temple?

Weird trade offer since Atlanta doesn't have a shortage of wings.

I wouldn't trade Trey straight up for Collins.

We wouldn't want Collins for the same reason Atlanta has been trying to trade him for the last 2-3 years. His salary doesn't fit the role we have for him. I would say that's true for most of the league or they'd have traded him already as much as they've tried.

Salary plus I don't see him as a C and Zion plays PF. So I just don't see the fit.

Though old school Collins shooting 40% on 3s next to Zion sounds good in theory...but only on 1 side of the ball.

Of course the Hawks would offer this they been trying to get rid of Collins for like 3 years. But we would turn that deal down with the swiftness, Collins is on a big contract a bad fit for this team and they wanted a 1st on top of that lol.

So far this season, he is shooting 23% from 3.

That's wild.

But yea, that's why I mentioned "old school Collins" from those couple of seasons he shot at 40%.

But even if he were here, no guarantee he'd get back to that though having Zion would certainly help.

My thought is that they were hoping to clear cap space as well as get young prospects and picks to send to a different trade partner.

Considering that they ended up sending three firsts to the Spurs, having an additional pick in the right year may actually have let them trade additional picks or load most of the picks into a single draft as not to hose themselves for 5+ seasons.

He got some kind of hand injury last year and he hasn’t been the same shooting the ball

Everyone has figured that out now, but there used to be great value hammering Collins under on 3’s made.

The books have adjusted at this point though.

I wonder what salary we were sending out w Trey in that trade.

Bc on the surface, Trey and a first (not sure which one), doesn’t sound great.

But if we were also shedding Graham and Temple. That trade structure starts to sound better.

Feels like collins is another in a long line of guys who perform really well in the playoffs, get a fat contract and then their team almost immediately wants to get rid of him.

I get the “you can’t lose him for nothing in FA” argument but there roster has been handcuffed for years because of that deal and the entire nba knows they are trying to dump him for pennies on the dollar.

When you factor in the money portion and cost control of the 2 players, I would say Trey has more value to a team. At the very least, it isn’t as uneven as you seem to suggest. Add in that Trey is 3 years younger and has untapped potential, whereas Collins seems to have plateaued and possibly regressed, and it may be uneven in Trey’s favor.

You’d rather have Collins at 25 mil/year than Murphy at 4?

Their wings all have injury question marks. Hunter and Griffin in particular have a history of knee problems.

And hunter is a limited shooter..

However if herb could shoot even at hunter's level, that would make trey movable.
