At the top of the key. This should have it's own thread. What exactly was Alvin going for there?

I think most people understand that it was a designed switch. The question people are wondering is why were the coaches designing switches with players like Asik on Lebron on the perimeter. At worst, a somewhat competent coaching staff would've let that happen one time maximum before making an adjustment.

It was a designed switch by the Cavs. Not the Pels.

What I mean by this is the Cavs designed it so Asik had no choice but to switch. Great design by Cavs.

Asik actually had stopped LeBron once or twice and made the shot hard several other times. There is no solution to this unless you can do what the Warriors do, have 4 guys you're comfortable switching on anyone. Not switching had its own set of consequences.

The coaches did make an adjustment as the game closed. As LeBron iso'd we brought Ryan Anderson over to double and cause a couple misses

Right.

It's why Asik is much more limited than anticipated- when they need a good shot, most teams will run PnR with his man all day long, get the switch, and go to work. Obviously, LeBron is a bad matchup for everyone, but just about every team can exploit Asik (or Anderson or Ajinca) in this very same situation. There just isn't a great answer on the roster.

This is a huge problem the Pels have; their non Davis bigs just can't defend in space in an increasingly space crazy league. Don't want to keep harping on it, but it makes signing both Ajinca and Asik long term this summer look shortsighted. Now, Asik did look better overall last night. Maybe he's getting back to full health, will find his legs, and be a contributor again.

AD didn't slow down Lebron, either.

Only much later in the game. Earlier in the game I was ready to join the crazy obsessed anti-Asik crowd.

It looked like he was trying to sprinkle Omer in toward the end just to get some height and bulk under the basket. In case it wasn't obvious, Lebron was going from the point to the cup every possession of the 4 th.

Yeah he was doing a lot of quick substituting with Omer late in the game. I think it sort of worked. Of course, Omer was fricking exhausted running to and from the bench.

And welcome to false equivalency theater. Enjoy the show, folks.

Reminded me of the Warriors playoff series when he kept switching off on Curry 1on1 at the top of the key. Curry shook him and hit the uncontested 3 everytime and LeBron shook him and took it to the cup everytime. I lol'd both times.

Asik, overall, played great D. He had to switch a few times and actually won the situation. In man to man you have to switch, the double team is where the question is. If he plays like he plays leave him out there. I thought he was fantastic. He defended the rim great, and Gentry had trouble getting out the game.

Gentry said those switches were blown assignments, they were never supposed to switch. Just another example of this incredibly low IQ team, can't execute a game plan.
