I think it makes sense to feel that way now. But if its April 20th and Jrue came back the final 40 games and played really well, has no lingering foot injuries and his wife's issues are behind him, it would be hard for me to imagine that the team would even consider letting him go and pinning their hopes on some 19 year old.

Especially since so many teams will be zigging to the loaded PG class. We could zag to the FA PG and not only get Jrue for less than he would cost most seasons (though I suspect he would still get a max), but teams going after the talented PG's will cause frontcourt players to drop.

you mean like the hawks did taking marvin Williams over Paul and deron?
If BPA is a point guard and they pass in order to max jrue holiday then this organization is dumber than I thought

so we will have a roster full of combo guards one of which takes a quarter of the cap and hope we get a FA. Fletcher would approve

I wouldn't say they are dumb; They just might have different priorities than you.

I think most fans have the luxury of taking the long term approach and basically saying every move should be made towards one goal: Winning a title

But it's a business. Make money is goal number 1 and while winning a title helps you do that, that is a nearly impossible thing to guarantee. Making the playoffs is an easier goal to achieve. And that brings in money. Being a playoff team every year, with the occasional second round exit will bring in more money than taking lumps for 3-4 years and not being a playoff team, and then suddenly making a jump into contender status

Oh, and the owner doesn't have much longer to live. So I don't totally blame him if he doesn't care about some 19 yr old who is probably 4 years away from possibly helpin him win big if everything goes right in his development

Like most others, I dislike that our ownership has the priorities it does, but they aren't dumb or without logic. They are just aiming at different targets than we are

That's fine and I understand that
That's all I want also....a likely playoff team
But that's what's they've been trying to do for three years with the exact same strategy and it hasn't worked. That may just be bad luck but that's not a good reason to keep doing the same thing over and over and hope it works

A maxed point guard with jrues limitations no matter the cause is not going to help make the playoffs consistently

I could easily see a scenario in which Jrue/AD/Buddy perform above and beyond their 50 million per year. Jrue might be slightly overpaid but AD and Buddy will likely be underpaid. It will be more about what they do with the other 50 million

of course it COULD work but it (investing in holiday) hasn't so far
I just don't trust this organization to make a well considered personnel/talent risk and reward decsison like this considering there are alternatives

i don't trust them to consider cutting bait if there's a bettter way right in front of their faces. That better way might be a stud PG in the draft

They should do both. Holiday can play off guard and Buddy and the PG you'd draft would be on cheap rookie deals, so for 3 years at least you'd have a pretty good 3 guard rotation for about $30ish. Down the line when minutes become a problem you shift Jrue to 6th man, a role he excelled at last season, and when the rookie deals end and money becomes an issue you move Holiday if you need to. Hopefully AD is still around at that point, but if he isn't you have a stud back court to rebuild around. MM is right in that it's likely Demps trades the pick during the season, but I really hope they don't.

I don't trust them to get it right no matter what they do, so why think that they will pick the right PG in the draft and then turn around and spend the money they save from not resigning Jrue wisely?

Like I have said many times, the only chance this franchise has is that Benson "goes away" and the top decision maker is a person who sees the big picture. That's what the Raiders needed and it still took them 4-5 years to get out from under Al's mess

that's a good comparison and I feel the same way unfortunately
if it's nearly impossible that they bail on holiday then we can just hope we get lucky I guess
god knows we are due

maybe Frazier will turn into something making all this moot
at minimum they'd have a viable plan B

Praying for her to heal from this. She is way too young to be going through something like this. Their relationship, in regards to experiencing hardship very early in marriage, mirrors what my wife and I have experienced in ours. It's very tough, but Holiday is doing the right thing with placing all his focus on her and being by her side as they deal with this.

This is the last time I will ask, I promise: But please, please don't set your own timetable for Jrue's return and hold him to it.

Okay, I'm done. Glad to hear all went well

Hopefully the procedure was simple enough that it's a short recovery, but if you do any reading on recovering from brain surgery you'll see it's possible she won't be herself for a few months. Healing the brain can be pretty rough.

Zach Lowe and Howard Beck briefly talked Pelicans today on the Lowe Post and Zach said he thought they could sneak into the playoffs if Lauren's surgery goes well and Jrue is back "mid November like the team is hoping."
