Anjica had some legendary pre-draft workouts on the level of Darko and Yi...of course, they were alone on the court with no one guarding them, but amazing nonetheless.

One thing in his favor is he's 25. That's about the age that centers start coming into their own. Someone on PR claiming to be a euro that follows Anjica said he told just drafted Rudy Gobert to not be lazy like he was and that being drafted didn't mean you had made it. If he was humbled by being bounced out of the league and worked on his game, we may be getting a much better player than he was 2 years ago.

Mike Schmitz of DraftExpress just put up a profile of Ajinca.

Leads the Euroleague in points per 40? 7'9" wingspan and 9'4" standing reach? Sounds good to me.

He looks a lot like AD on offense. He's just a weak defender and rebounder.

How has he the 7-footer evolved since the 2010-2011 season and what can he be expected to bring to the table for the New Orleans Hornets?

Nice find His strengths are nice but his weaknesses might keep him on Monty's bench.

But yet a terrible defender and rebounder? :mindblown:

He's light in the arse (only 225) and shies away from contact. He could actually be pretty good if he could change his mentality some, but that's probably like asking Okafor to dunk with authority instead of sheepishly missing a layup.

...because he is soft and clearly that hasn't changed since his first stint in the NBA. If he can't mix it up with a 32 year old Euro who smoked a pack before tip-off, what is he going to do against a NBA-caliber front line?

Between Ajinca and Rivers, we should be able to lose nearly every game and get that top 5 draft pick, no?

By the way, when's he start playing? Tonight? Thursday at Portland?

He's not even officially signed yet. There are several paperwork hoops to jump through, buying out his contract, getting a letter of authorization from FIBA and the NBA, getting a Visa (held up Ayon IIRC). This week might be pushing it and next week is Christmas so he may not be official for a while.

Sounds like a lot of work to go through for a shitty player.

Why go thru all this paperwork if he will rot on the bench

He's leading the Euroleague in points per 40 minutes. He is an offensive weapon, with a solid jump shot and an unblockable jump hook when he gets the ball in the post. Watch the video that was linked above.

Obviously, the front office doesn't believe that he will sit on the bench. Obviously, Demps thinks that a big who can fill it up will get some minutes on the floor.

Mark Deeks with a breakdown of Anjica

LINK

quote:

He has found his role as a player - gone (mostly) are the three-point shots, replaced with a mid-range, pick-and-roll based game (admittedly with more emphasis on the roll than the pick) interspersed with hook shots from down low, with shot creation and shot making skills, a much improved offensive talent. He was averaging 17.1 points in only 24.9 minutes per game of Euroleague play - in the toughest league outside of the NBA, Ajinca has shone brightly, emerging as one of the best centers on the continent, and particularly so offensively.

quote:

Ajinca would have played more minutes were he not so foul prone still. Certainly, Ajinca still has more to do on the defensive end. Despite his height and wingspan making him a quality shot blocker and unignorable defensive presence, the mistakes and inconsistent decision making remain, and the development has been more offensive than defensive. Nevertheless Ajinca's rebounding rates improve year on year, whilst his shot blocking remains, and the offensive production continually increases. He is now that which he was not quite before - an NBA calibre big man. And aged only 25, further improvements are no doubt forthcoming.
