Nothing too earth shattering, but there are some details from Pondexter's knee injury at the end of last season, as well as his departure from Memphis. I can't wait to see a healthy Q-Pon in this lineup.

quote:

“I played the last two months or so on a really bad knee, and there were so many things I had to go through just to get on the court,” Pondexter said. “My knee would swell and then it couldn’t drain, and I’d go through so much therapy before the games, and a lot of it didn’t really make much of a difference. “So I was just going out there and playing with pure heart because I just didn’t want to let my teammates down. We were in a playoff push, and the ability to earn a starter’s spot was a goal and a dream since I’ve been in the NBA, so I wasn’t going to let that go, as long as I could still run when I was on the floor — no matter how much it hurt.”

quote:

“They set up MRIs, and every time they set one up, he wouldn’t go,” Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said. “He would not show. And so he got fined every time for not showing up. And so finally at the end, (General Manager Dell Demps) brought him in and said, ‘This is so uncharacteristic of you. I don’t understand it’. And (Pondexter) says, ‘If I go to the doctor, they’re going to examine my knee, and they’re going to tell me that I can’t play.’ ”

I really admire the heart but he was taking a big risk there. If he hurt his knee even more by playing, we'd all be pissed at him (or blame our team doctors ). Still, in hindsight I'm glad he played through it because there seems to be no long term damage and he was a huge reason we made the playoffs

Seems like a vocal leader more than anything.

Well considering who he replaced, he was a nice upgrade.

It’s the attitude that propelled the 27-year-old into a locker room leader after just weeks on the roster.

Crazy how a change of scenery can effect a guy. He was the exact opposite of this in Memphis.

quote:

Pondexter was disciplined by the organization after he was seen staring and screaming toward the Grizzlies bench during a 22-point performance in December 2013. Reports surfaced that he flung a stream of expletives at Joerger, which led Memphis to trade him a few weeks later.

Pondexter disputed those reports, saying he had no relationship whatsoever with Joerger and there was no heated exchange between the two.

“It was a difficult time in my life,” he said. “And it hurt. There were stories that I cursed the coach out that just weren’t true. We had never even communicated, let alone had I screamed at him or had a falling out. We never talked to each other prior to that game or during that game.

“There were a lot of rumors that came out and a lot of stories that popped up as a reaction to that moment. It just really hurt to have to go through that. I’m not that player, and I’m not that person. What you see now and what you’ve heard about me (in New Orleans) is the kind of person I am. I want that to be reflected.”

So much bullshite from Q here. Does he think there wasn't anybody in the arena to catch him cursing out Joerger? People saw it happen, heard him screaming, and reported it. Everyone who followed the team had been reporting all season that Q had become a cancer on the team.

Is he really going to act like the guy who was either an assistant or the HC his entire time in Memphis never spoke to him....

The team showed him a ton of good faith by signing him to an extension while he was out with a season ending injury. His inability to perform when given chances to play in the rotation (or when he got starts) never gave him the right to become such a nuisance in one of most close-knit veteran led lockerrooms.

He's been a model teammate since he arrived in New Orleans.

I couldn't imagine him acting like the reports suggest. Not that I don't believe them, but he seems like a different person here.

He's latched onto AD, which is a pretty smart thing to do. But he is an average (at best) player. Babbitt > Coupon IMO.

Maybe Joerger and the rest of the Memphis team are assholes who deserve to get yelled at.

Who has said otherwise? But there aren't enough >'s to express how much better average is than shouldn't be in the league.

As for whether he cursed out his former coach, who cares besides bitter memphisians?

I think the lack of playing and the move really had an impact on him. If you had listened to him heading in to last season he was talking like a guy who thought he was going to be an all-star.

When he got to Nola he turned back in to the player we all fell in love with during the WCF.

I'm not trolling him. He's nothing special on the floor. Decent player but he gets lots of love around here. It would be like celebrating Matt Barnes, Steve Blake, etc. Not a bad player or anything, just ok.

No one thinks he's an all-star or anything close to that. He's an average player (above average shooter), who has a great attitude and is a leader in the locker room. If you don't know why he gets love around here then I'm not sure what to tell you.

I have no idea why I'm even responding to you.
