The Pelicans thought they had fixed their player care and performance team with the hiring of Aaron Nelson. Four years later, Nelson is out as head of the department. What went wrong.

We all thought it was a home run hire.

But when he was hired, I remember multiple inside the nba wonks saying that they thought he was incredibly overrated, that his reputation was built on being way overly cautious, and that several other people in the league had surpassed him.

We all dismissed it as bullshite. They were right, I guess.

This had to be done. Hopefully they go and get a young up and comer, with new ideas and approaches.

I love how the header of the article says he’s out and the the body of the article says nothing is confirmed.

I thought the same thing. Very misleading headline.

Not gonna lie, I'm busy this morning and saw the blurb from Clark so I assumed it was a done deal.

My bad.

LOL. That was the mistake. Relying on anything from Clark being accurate.

Yeah, I believe it was Crewz that said he was not thought of highly anymore in the league.

I seem to recall him thinking highly of the hire and investment the team was putting into the player care area.

Yeah Crewz called this very early on. Y’all don’t like to admit it but he knows his shite way more than us message board fans.

He also said he woukd turn down an offer of Tatum and Jaylon Brown for AD and that neither player would make it to all star status. Does that sound like someone that knows more than message board fans?

Yeah if we are going scoreboard here, between his alters and OG account it’s going to take awhile to count up his Ls.

Someone's head had to roll, so I guess Nelson will play the role of the sacrificial lamb. Performance has undoubtedly been underwhelming, but it is a two-way street with player and staff being on the same page.

I'm sure Nelson had the team and Zion's best interest in mind and slow-rolled rehabilitation to prevent re-injury, however it seemed there was always a setback regardless of the prevention measures. Zion and his camp have to own their culpability and get to the root problem that his weight and style of play do not complement one another.

From a fitness perspective, I like the fact that it seems the core of the Pelicans are holing out in NOLA for the summer. As a team, they have to recognize they need to be physically stronger and more conditioned to implement the style of play the Coaches want. Hopefully, they are holding each other accountable in their respective training sessions.
