Reading through the other threads about potential off-season moves I see people saying 50 as the goal so I'll set it there. What are the board's thoughts?

Realistically, the Warriors and Spurs will still be in tact and barring major injury or moves (CP3 to Spurs, George/Butler to Cavs, etc) it's hard to see anyone beating this GSW team next season so we need to be looking towards the future imo.

I say just over or right at 50. That should put us in the sweet spot of being a 4-6 seed where we have a good chance to win a first round series. I'd think that'd be enticing for Cousins to stay if we make moves and improve over the next couple years.

Thoughts?

Honestly?

Not as much as you think. He was willing to sign with an AWFUL franchise with no hope whatsoever for the DPE.

We can offer him more than anyone. If we are in the playoff hunt he will resign.

Cousins is going where he gets the most money, that would be us. There is no way the Pelicans win 50 games next season, barring a miracle. I just hope we unearth a huge gem in the 2nd round, find a once in a generation foreign player or Moore/Hill sell their souls to the devil. Otherwise same team and results as last season..

You don't think that this team could be as good as Utah or Toronto was this past year?

I'll go under and say anywhere from 48-50 and at least threatening to go to the second round are what it will take.

For the umpteenth time ppl forget that AD hasn't hit his prime.

I said 50 in the article I linked to because that was the number that author threw out.

His rational was the a 50-32 team won it all in the not-too-distant past.

I like that number because it puts us in the middle of the pack of playoff seeds, and we're not winning it all next year.

If I see that much improvement and maybe a few playoff or even series wins, I'd take it as a good sign that we're moving in the right direction and in 2-3 years might be a legit championship contender.

I think 18 games over .500 is about the threshold wherein another game-changer sees New Orleans as a bona fide contender if said player were to sign.

It wouldnt hurt in terms of Cousins re-signing, and having two legit stars seems to be a prerequisite for attracting a third.

I think that's spot-on. We need to see real improvement next year if we're going to entice the guys that could put us over the top.

I feel like every year we have hope and they always let us down aside from the last year with Monty making the playoffs. We still have zero bench and 3 guys taking up a ton of cap space that are for the most part worthless. I will say 42-44 wins probably. Hopefully more. I'm holding hope with Boogie and Brow

We just need to make the damn playoffs, even if it means 41, 44, or 57 wins.

The fact Cousins never pushed his way out of Sacramento makes me believe he will be here as long as we want him.

Whatever amount it takes to get to the playoffs. I still see him resigning because he likes it here and playing along side with Davis

In that scenario, he might sign a deal that would end simultaneously as Davis though.

depending on what happens in the offseason, i see no reason this team shouldn't win at minimum 45 games. You keep Jrue and land another player, 50 should be the minimum. Gentry should be on a short leash. they come out the gates playing under .500 ball the first 30 games, his arse needs to go. I'm sick and tired of the excuses we use every year for our coaching (injuries, new players needing to gel, blah blah blah). You have two great players, not good, great. If you can't be comfortably over .500 with two great players, then they either aren't that great, or the coach is worthless.

And Cousins isn't going anywhere unless we want him to go somewhere.

The two players we have do not impact the game in a way that results in victories. This is evidenced by their combined one winning season (barely one) out of 12 in the league. The game is played outside/in and dominated by elite perimeter players. The Pelicans do not have one. Holiday is a decent combo guard but very injury prone. This team will have some great moments, but will struggle to be .500. It is horribly constructed, has no balance and zero veteran leadership that has actually been part of winning cultures..

Cousins resigns regardless though. He just wants the most money he can get..

For boogie I don't think it's about wins this year or money, but about direction. He is buying in and loves being this close to Mobile where his family can come to virtually every game. He needs to see that he is wanted and accepted here, and that our team has a cogent plan.

I'd say a better barometer would be playoff position. 6 seed or better and I think he's for sure in. 8 seed and a GSW sweep probably hinges on a maybe. Miss the playoffs and he's probably gone. Also, if we don't get into some kind of postseason next year, I think that the entire probability of keeping this franchise in NO for the longterm drops significantly.

BTW - Keeping shite coaches/GM's and fighting with the fricking Nuggets and Jazz every year in the 8/9/10 spot is killing basketball for me.

THey wouldn't be. But, two top 15 players is a lot more than most teams have.

To act like it would be a shock for them to win 50 games is laughable.
