Listed to this recording from the band Spirit of their song 'Taurus', which coincidentally they performed at the same venue as Led Zeppelin on the same day at least three times between 1968 and 1970 and at a 1969 festival on different days.

So? Would you find for Zep or for the Plaintiff?
Sorry - missed the previous post from back earlier this year.

It's a silly lawsuit and should have been thrown out of court.
The songs are both based on musical progression that has been around for hundreds of years in folk music. It's really pretty basic stuff.Same as with almost all of popular music, nothing is really new musically,it's all been done before.
If they had copied lyrics,I would feel differently about it.

Zeppelins was better and not the exact same

It needed a steel guitar in it though. I swear that would've sounded great.

I would tell Spirit to go fade back into the obscurity from whence they came. And to never sully the name of the great Led Zeppelin again.

If that Robin Thicke douche can lose for his song to Marvin Gaye's family, Zepplin can lose.
For the record I think both cases are horseshite.
People use stuff all the time. Progressions it was called.
The Doors "Five to One" has a solo guitar stretch that is used many times over decades. I really notice it in some Pearl jam songs. Black. And some live versions of Evenflow it is used or very similar.

Come on man, that's stupid. There's often a lot more to a song than the chords they are playing. The style and transitions are the same, so much so that when you hear it you think you are hearing an iconic Zeppelin song. It's obviously a rip-off. Id venture to say they ripped off some of the classical pieces as well, including Bach but ripping off classical music is basically "being inspired by" it anyway. It's public domain. In this case it's no coincidence that the two bands played together.
There are 100's of songs with the same chord progression. Can you name others that people would think was Stairway to Heaven upon hearing it? Sure, there are some that are very similar (bach, rolling stones, eric clapton, and even Hotel California) but you don't really mistake one for the other. There have been many before us who have stumbled across basically the same sound but none have put it on a record that I know of.
Even the name pays homage to what they ripped off. Spirit --> Stairway to Heaven.

What was Spirit doing for the last 45 years? I feel like there should be some sort of time frame in which to file suit.

that shite sounded like an actual drum sample. These two are just progressions.

I hear something that is very, very distantly reminiscent of Stairway but is trivial and instantly forgettable. Move along, nothing to see here. Fogerty came 100x closer to plagiarizing himself, yet he won, and this case is an insult to the artists Zeppelin actually did rip off.

If you never borrow or steal,I want to hear some of your stuff..I love to borrow new stuff.
Man, you keep doing what you do, if somebody borrows or copies it, take it as a compliment. That only applies to music. Lyrics are a different matter.
Somebody using basic chords, progressions etc...and they think somebody stole some genius shite from them? Easy to see why they didn't get much further, and have to resort to a lawsuit.
I have this one song, worked on it for 30 years,It is My Masterpiece,it is really good and one day it will make it's mark.
Anyhow, the song is full of hooks. One day at a publisher, there is another guy there, pitching his stuff too,and happened to hear this song.
He approached me later, and asked about about 1 line I had from the song. I was proud of the line, and I knew it was good when I wrote it,but he thought it was a great hook for an entire song.
He asked me if we could write something together, based on that 1 line.
I told him " I really don't think there is enough meat there for an entire song" I don't care if you use it though.
He did it though,it did pretty well for him..I have to laugh at myself everytime I hear it.It can only make me try harder.

Didnt't listen nor read your claim.
But Zep has been accused of this stuff non-stop since the 70's and nothing stuck so these guys are probably out of luck.

LZ ripped off many bands on their rise to the top. they've admitted so.

Imitation is the greatest form of flattery or so they say. These other bands should be honored.

So did the Stones. Keefe talks about in quite a bit in his book.
