I read that, but still trying to make sense of it. So does album rock mean that a piece of music plays better as a whole album rather than just individual tracks or singles
"Album rock" and "AOR" were more marketing terms. They meant that instead of one single track getting airplay, three or four tracks from an album would go into rotation. Look at it like this: In 1965 the Stones released the single "Satisfaction" and it got the airplay. But in 1971 they released the album Sticky Fingers and several tracks got played on FM stations: "Brown Sugar", "Wild Horses", etc.

Whether certain music plays better as albums is an artistic question and a personal preference. Certainly my favorite albums:

The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society
Van Morrison -- Astral Weeks
Love -- Forever Changes
Elvis Costello -- Imperial Bedroom

would qualify here, IMHO

For those of you who never tried The Church, I have 202 songs downloaded on my phone just from them. There's more to them than just "Under the Milkyway" and "Reptile" and their first two albums are, IMO, 2 of their 3 best.

First, his music is objectively shitty. But I generally don't care about that-lots of shitty music out there. What gets me, and makes me want to kill puppies, is he gets lumped into new wave/alt/college where his terrible music does not belong. So, while I can avoid most shitty music by listening to certain stations or mixes, I cannot avoid this terrible crap because some dumbass up the line made an awful decision on his genre. Same for that stupid Tarzan Boy song and some others.
