How did I not know about this guy?! Just stumbled across him on iTunes - was looking for a song by Luke Combs & Hoge's new album Anchors scrolled across the top. Clicked on it because the album cover caught my eye, sampled the first 4 songs & bought it. Then started doing some research and it appears I'm really late to the party.
**Highly recommend Anchors

Isn't he the guy that did the song in the Chevy Truck commercials? Strong I think was the name of it.

I recently discovered him as well. Check out Draw the Cutain from a few years ago. I really like that one.

Anchors is his worst album imo(although I've only listened twice).
Small Town Dreams from 2015 is his quentissential album. It's almost perfect but he's been putting out albums for almost 20 years, so many people will have many opinions....basically, dive into his old stuff. It's great.
Yes, the song Strong from the Chevy commercials is him and yes, he wrote a ton of songs, and one of them was recorded by Eli Young Band.
If you get the chance, see him live. Or better yet, come to Nashville and see him. Last time I saw him was in 2014 and he ended his tour at home(Nashville). He came on stage at around 8:30. Me and my buddies left at midnight. He played til 2am. He's freakin crazy.
Great artist. Got some demons though.

Bad drug and alcohol addiction after he almost died in an motor scooter accident about 10 years ago.

Julia arrived to find that her husband was, indeed, alive. But his condition, as she'd soon learn, was critical. He was classified as a Level I, the trauma unit's highest priority of patient.
"Everybody kept telling me no head or spinal [injuries], which was the big thing," she says. "So I knew he was still in there, even though his body might be broken. But when they took me back [to the Intensive Care Unit], I was not at all prepared for what I saw. Had someone not pointed him to me, and had I not seen his tattoos, I would not have known it was him, not for a minute. He was so swollen in his face he was unrecognizable."
Hoge's bloodied face was a partly toothless mess. Beyond that, the impact crushed one of his lungs and broke his sternum, collarbone, both shoulder blades and three ribs. Then there was his mangled right leg. The knee was broken, the ligaments torn; a significant chunk of the thigh bone was simply gone.
He'd need multiple blood transfusions and two days on a ventilator just to get stabilized. Ultimately, he would require seven surgeries, a lot of morphine, several months' worth of physical therapy, and a full year of healing.

Blackbird On A Lonely Wire is his best record from top to bottom.
But his first 3 (Carousel, Blackbird, Man Who Killed Love) are his best records...
