I've never necessarily gotten into the whole jam band scene but know too many people who live and die by this band. Any of you heady bros want to link me to their best work? I'm not looking to hop on the WSP bandwagon, just want to hear some of their good jams

ETA: I know they suck

Well I was going to help.

Just wait for Burt. He's an expert on the boys from Athens. He'll be able to guide you

That comment was based on the hate I see them catch on this board. Please proceed if you can lead me in the right direction

Me too. We live in the south, people are going to have shite taste in music. Panic fans are pretty trashy, redneck POS types, but At least WSP is a notch above toby keith.

yea, it was with this dead gay guy that sucked almost as bad as herring

its the same generic southern rock song over and over.

It's extremely simple feel good music. Nothing complex because the musicians aren't complex. Good dynamics. Fun shows. I've heard schools say there's no reason they blew up the way they did, extremely lucky. Ever question why a certain band got big while not having much of an "x factor"? Well that's wsp. Herring is the most talented of the band and tries to make a 4/4 GDC progression into some crazy off tempo diminished 7/8th augmented thing, sometimes works, other times it doesn't. Not my cup of tea, but not horrible. B-

Light Fuse, Get Away is your best place to start if your looking for some of their best jams. Also Panic in The Streets is great too.

Well it's good to see you didn't lose your ability to be lame and unfunny during your hiatus Burt.

I tried to like Panic, I really did. I needed something to fill the void from Phish's hiatus during '04-'09. WSP came down here a lot and it just made sense. I have been to several shows and they are one fricking boring band. If I had to choose their live or studio output I'd actually go with studio.

Listen to these. They are the ones that got me interested in the band. I'm absolutely no expert on which shows are better, so don't assume that this is the best version of the song.

Panic is the Streets is a good live album to begin with.

Probably my favorite version of Disco and Aunt Avis is from that CD

That's because the only live stuff you've heard is Jimmy. Late 90's-02 is way better than anything in the studio.

'space wrangler', the self-titled album, and 'everyday' are solid studio albums worth checking out. live? i enjoyed them when they were still playing watering holes, but i got lost in translation when they started playing bigger places. ...try as i did (and i did try, having seen many post-club shows, including a couple of NYE gigs & the athens 'panic in the streets' free show), it just didn't click for me and i was mostly bored & uninterested. but those first three albums still stand up, so give those a go, i suppose...

This is their best live "CD release", although we don't buy physical CD's anymore.

Everyday is their best studio album.

Tons of live shows that are awesome. 7-28-2001, Oak Mountain in Pelham, Alabama is considered their best live show ever.

IMO, 5-8-2010 is their best live show with Jimmy Herring.
