Why is Joan Jett in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame?

I was glancing through the list of inductees and must admit that there are a lot of them that I am unfamiliar with. However some are included that really surprise me. I only remember a few songs by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts in the 1980's. They were popular, but not what I would classify as something that changed the landscape, required an immense amount of talent, contained a social message or anything else. I saw them as a warm up band for The Police for the Ghost in the Machine tour. She was awful live.
I'd much rather see artist like The Moody Blues, Chicago, Yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer, or ELO included on the list. Those bands created unique styles and had lots of hits. Jeff Lynne should be included for both ELO and the work he has done as a writer / producer.

Because she loves rock n roll.

She really borders on a one hit wonder so I have no clue. She was big in the early days of MTV but she really only had one big hit with a few other mild hits.

The Rock & Roll HOF is a very elitist, left wing group that only wants to let in what it considers avant guard, politically left, & hip. It is only in the past few years that they have basically been forced to add in bands that they consider beneath them(example. Rush, KISS). There is no way Joan Jett should even be eligible based on her work but I would think since they needed a feminist lesbian in there that is how she got it. I will give Joan credit that she does a lot with our military. Her work of music just doesn't add up to being the HOF.

well the hall is a joke..
that said, i like joan jett. Saw her at tips back in the late 80's. her live show kicked arse. and she was pretty hot.

the runaways; her 4 or 5 hits in her solo career; producing the Germs record... there are people in the HOF for less

Weird Al did a cover of her, which is now the standard for RRHoF consideration.

She deserves to me in the Hall of Fame for The Runaways, her solo career and her HUGE influence on female rock and rollers...
She's a legend
Now, if only Cheap Trick would get their day in the sun!

Exactly. And she's a vegetarian and loves the shite out of PETA. She was a shoe in as a "person". As a musician, she should never be allowed in.

Sid Vicious didn't know how to even play an instrument and was a horrible singer and may or may not have killed his girlfriend.. and he's in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.. let's give Joan a break; it's a tourist attraction in Cleveland.

Pantera, Iron Maiden and Ozzy arent in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and people like Joan Jett and The Beastie Boys are.

If you need any additional reasons to understand why the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame isn't taken seriously...

Prior to October 2012, Deep Purple had not been nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (though they have been eligible since 1993), but were nominated for induction in 2012 and 2013. Despite ranking second in the public's vote on the Rock Hall fans’ ballot, which had over half a million votes, they were not inducted by the Rock Hall committee. Kiss bassist Gene Simmons and Rush bassist Geddy Lee commented that Deep Purple should obviously be among the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees. There have been criticisms in the past over Deep Purple not having been inducted. Toto guitarist Steve Lukather commented, "they put Patti Smith in there but not Deep Purple? What's the first song every kid learns how to play? ["Smoke On The Water"]...And they're not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? ...the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has lost its cool because of the glaring omissions." Former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash expressed his surprise and disagreement for the non-induction of Deep Purple; "The list of people who haven’t even been nominated is mind-boggling..[the] big one for me is Deep Purple. How could you not induct Deep Purple?". Metallica band members Lars Ulrich and Kirk Hammett have also lobbied for the band's induction. In an interview with rollingstone.com in April 2014, Ulrich pleaded: "I'm not gonna get into the politics or all that stuff, but I got two words to say: 'Deep Purple'. That's all I have to say: Deep Purple. Seriously, people, Deep Purple. Two simple words in the English language...'Deep Purple'! Did I say that already?" In 2015, Chris Jericho, former WWE wrestler and current vocalist of rock band Fozzy, stated: "that Deep Purple are not in it [Hall of Fame]. It's bullshite. Obviously there's some politics against them from getting in there." In response to these, a Hall of Fame chief executive said, "The definition of ‘rock and roll’ means different things to different people, but as broad as the classifications may be, they all share a common love of the music." Roger Glover remains ambivalent about induction and got an inside word from the Hall, “One of the jurors said, ‘You know, Deep Purple, they’re just one-hit wonders.’ How can you deal with that kind of Philistinism, you know?”. Ian Gillan also commented, "I've fought all my life against being institutionalised and I think you have to actively search these things out, in other words mingle with the right people, and we don't get invited to those kind of things." On 16 October 2013 Deep Purple were again announced as nominees for inclusion to the Hall, and once again they were not inducted. In April 2015, Deep Purple topped the list in a Rolling Stone readers poll of acts that should be inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2016. In October 2015, the band were nominated for induction for the third time.

He did have that whole solo career thing, which included some of the greatest guitarists of an era. If Joan fricking Jett can get in as a one hit wonder then that opens the door for a ton of other people, especially guys like Ozzy; jeez.

She is the second worst inclusion behind only Donna summer

The Mamas & the Papas have nothing on Donna Summer. When I think of rock n roll they are farther from my mind than John Denver.
