Jackson C. Frank. He lived into his 50's, but he was mentally gone by about age 30. His self-named album, including the almost universally acknowledged masterpiece "Blues Run the Game," is simply brilliant in lyrics and music.

Terry math was s badass..... Jim Croce was really good. John Denver was a very talented artist. John Lennon, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Lynyrd Skynyrd. Just yo name a few.

Buddy Holly's a particularly sad story in that he was only 22 at the time and still had so much to give to music. He was a major innovator in the studio and as a guitar player. Also, had an impactful singing voice for the groups that came after.
