I just think his voice has a rather unpleasant metallic edge to it. He spends too much time singing at the upper limits of his range which causes his voice to crack. Kind of like Steve Perry with a sore throat.

He was 18 when he cut "Gimmie Some Lovin'" I think that is pretty remarkable.

Yes, that is pretty remarkable. Yes, that is a great song. No, it does not make his voice sound any better. He's kind of in that Eric Clapton/Ringo Starr class. He carries a tune ok, but the sound is not smooth like, say, Burton Cummings. I am always a fan of his music, just not of his voice. JMHO
