I think it strikes everyone as fake.

The people who make it and listen to it aren't doing any of the stuff in the songs, and moreover, the stuff described is cheesy and annoying. It's the facebook version of rural life.

Seriously, every modern country song I've heard since 2003 has been a progressively more douchebag version of "Mud on the Tires."

I agree with you in most cases but why does that matter when commercial music in general is the facebook version of life?

I have a feeling a duo made up of a guy from rural south georgia and ormond beach florida probably actually are singing about their high school/college experiences. Certainly more so that a chick from Pennsylvania making up songs about their pretend boyfriend. Or Kanye doing what ever he is doing this week. Or Jay Z the billionaire rapping about life on the streets.

I get where you are coming and going with this...But most everyone on here who hates bro country, also aren't big fans of mainstream music.

I think T Swift is just as fake as Aldean.
I find Katy Perry to be just as annoying as Luke Bryan.

Your argument is that bro country takes a bigger beating than mainstream radio acts. On the TD music board, it's equal. Mumford sucks just like Blake Shelton does

Again, 2/10, very poor trolling on your part

there are plenty great country/americana acts out there right now .... you just need to turn off the radio to find them

My argument is that it has became the convenient whipping boy of mainstream music, not its quality.

And is why is it this way?

The responses in this thread have been mostly right on but they aren't answering the specifics. Why in general is bro country taking a beating where other genres are getting a pass? Political Correctness? Simply less people are rural now days?

Why is it this specifically not on the TD music board (because this was my first ever post here) but in popular culture in general? Why is it the one thing mainstream pop culture won't defend in its "everything goes big tent"?

I love country music but despise most of the pop country. Some of it I can recognize as talented, however I don't like it. It's cheesy, and almost like they try to lump as many cliches as they can into a three minute track.

I've never liked pop. It always seemed dumbed down and meant for people who didn't truly enjoy music. I feel that is where country is now.

Florida Georgia Line to me is like NSync with a fiddle and a little twang.
The whole fake outlaw bit Aldean tries to portray is laughable.
Carrie Underwood should be on pop stations, as should Taylor Swift. Same with Rascall Flatts and Keith Urban. They are all very talented, but i don't see how they classify their music as country.
Luke Bryan...hell have you heard his last couple of songs?

WTF are you talking about? Maybe it is this way in some weird small circle of friends that you have but not the rest of the world.

You've gotten some very reasonable responses. I'm just going to say this, if you consider yourself a music person and you don't realize why it's terrible, then don't expect anybody to be able to explain it to you.

Also, you're in your mid-20s, from Alabama and you watch Glee? I'd say just accept that you have terrible taste, no harm in that.

Waylon briefly addresses the difference of country music today due to videos. And this is back in the early 90's. Listen to him starting at 2:05

Mainstream pop isn't ruining the public perception of an entire genre.

When I tell people I like country music I have to lead off with a fricking disclaimer. That's how bad your music sucks. It is ruining the name of an entire genre of music.

I drive a truck because I need a truck. I laugh at anyone who wears camo outside of the woods.

So because the music is "made" for rural white (presumably straight) southern males is it seen as not being relevant/politically correct?

Probably listened to by suburban or urban "rednecks" and teenage girls more than rural country folk.

My guess is a real country person would get offended by the endless repetition and lack of soul in these songs.
