I think he's willy overrated, but honestly, very few artists could live up to the praise heaped upon him. I think the only other post-60s artist that has been so constantly lauded is Kanye West.

That said, he puts on a fantastic live show, he's one of the few guys from his era who isn't just mailing it in for a paycheck, and Born to Run, while overplayed as hell, is an unimpeachable classic album. It's the Pearl Jam Ten of the 70s. A great album that requires you to avoid pop culture so you can enjoy it again. There's a REASON it got overplayed.

I do prefer Mellencamp, which is like telling a Bruce fan you prefer rat poison to filet mignon.

Still, he is a legit great who might be so overrated he's now underrated. Hes the Derek Jeter of rock music.

Bruce would overrate all over anastasio's punk arse. Then do a 1,2,3,4 shred on him.

I thank him for what became Manfred Man's song, but can't stand anything he did himself.

Seen Bruce and the band 22 times. In the words of Forrest Gump......"that's all I have to say about THAT."

I vehemently disagree with his politics but there's absolutely no denying that he's one of the best all time performers. I think that his peak was The River tour in 1980. I saw him in Phoenix that year and it was a balls to the wall 5 1/2 hour set. Even now at 64, he blows away people half his age. He's always willing to reinvent himself and his music and if you see him constantly, his shows are always different. The funny thing about the haters who say, "Bruce sucks, so and so is better...most of those "so and sos" are huge Bruce fans.

admittedly, he's not one of my go-to artists when choosing music to listen to around the house...but when i saw him in concert for the first time ('84), it was a definite game-changer for me, as far as the live experience goes. the dead might be the only other act i can say the same about...

The first 3 are great, I haven't purchased any post then. He is called the Boss for a reason, one of the greatest performers ever.

If you have ever been in a band, I guarantee you, you don't want to follow that guy and at the end of the day, live music is what it is all about.

Darkness on the Edge of Town and Nebraska are all-time great albums. I even appreciate Tunnel of Love for what it was.

Too much of his older music, while wonderfully composed, was too long, too synonymous and bored me. I feel the same toward most of Dylan's music as well.

On the whole, I'd put Springsteen and Billy Joel as my top 2 all-time American pop songwriters of the last 50 years. Not necessarily in that order.

He sold out to Ford truck commercials and now I can't listen to his music without picturing a shitty Ford truck commercial. Everything he does sounds like it was tailor made for a shitty Ford truck commercial.

But i am a huge Tom Morello fan.
