Lateralus, though Aenima is a close second.

nb4 mizzoukills 3000 word essay about how 10,000 days is the best Tool album and most representative of their work and contains their best song ever, Rosetta stoned, and your opinion doesn't matter and if you don't agree, you're not a true tool fan.

I am a huge TOOL fan. Have said many times that 10,000 Days might be their best overall album.

It just hasn't been around as long as the others to micro-analyze.

Honesty Anemia, Lateralus and 10,000 Days are a push

I disagree with this assertion. I do think that you can tell a lot by a band's debut in determining what sort of artistic /musical statement they intend to make.

However, most bands typically peak after recording several albums because the members need to further their songwriting chemistry and musicianship before being able to achieve such an apex.

I have never understood the hate for 10,000 Days.

It has some of the most diverse-sounding and unique songs produced by Tool.

Maynard's lyrics alone are enough for the album to easily crack the top three. Plus, there's the vocal climax of "10,000 Days (Wings, Pt. 2)". That shite is haunting.

It's so hard to say, but I have yet to find a better stretch of music than the five tracks in the middle of Lateralus.

"Schism"
"Parabol"
"Parabola"
"Ticks and Leeches"
"Lateralus"

I feel the same way with the opening 5 on 10,000 Days.

Oh and the lyrics you mentioned above for Wings Pt2

quote:

Set as I am in my ways and my arrogance.
Burden of proof tossed upon the believers.
You were my witness, my eyes, my evidence,
Judith Marie, unconditional one.

Daylight dims leaving cold fluorescence.
Difficult to see you in this light.
Please forgive this bold suggestion.
Should you see your maker's face tonight,
Look him in the eye.
Look him in the eye and tell him,
I never lived a lie, never took a life,
But surely saved one.

Hallelujah
It's time for you to bring me home.

I get that goosebumps(fleesons' we say DTB) everytime I hear this track.

It's been around almost 10 years. FFS, I think that's plenty of time to "micro-analyze."

I've said it before, but I liked 10KDays a lot when it came out, but that was probably because I was just so excited to get something new from Tool. It just doesn't have the staying power that Aenima and Lateralus have. Both those albums were groundbreaking. 10KDays seeemed more like a sequel to Lateralus than an original piece of work.

But, I like Undertow and Lateralus a lot - and Lateralus is their best song - and the best heavy song of the 21st Century, period.

A lot. Not much new stuff, I'll admit.

But, that's still a great song.

Aenima and Lateralus are the most complete albums, IMO, but 10k Days is right there. Rosetta Stoned is probably my favorite Tool song.

Tool is one of those bands that I rarely listen to in regular rotation, but when they release something new, I'm balls deep in it for months. I still consider them my favorite band.
