Can't have a letterman performance list and leave of one of his favorites and mine, Mr. Tom Waits.

Tom Waits - On the Nickel (starts around 1:40)

Father John Misty - Only Son of the Ladies' Man

Elvis Perkins - While You Were Sleeping

Sonny & Cher Reunion 1987

Most of you youngsters won't understand how absolutely MONUMENTAL this performance was. If there was an internet in 1987, this clip would have broken it. Everybody was talking about it the next day. People fondly remembered the Sonny & Cher show from the early 70s, and this brought back a little of that. Those two hadn't performed that song together in years after a nasty divorce. It was also the last time they would perform together. I'll admit, I got a few goosebumps when they started singing.

As much as Cher flirted with Dave over the years, I'd be shocked if they never banged.

Seemed like Flock of Seagulls fronted by Karl Childers doing an impression of Mick Jagger as a speed skater.

Not bad.

Videos on youtube don't do the performance the justice it deserves because of when it aired but, Blind Melon was awesome on the show.

The Heavy

They came in as unknowns and killed it. One of the rare times Dave asked for an encore.

Earl Scruggs, Steve Martin, Albert Lee (English studio musician), Vince Gill, Marty Stuart (hell of a good mandolin player), along with some other fine musicians playing Foggy Mountain Breakdown (the steel guitar player is excellent).

Desperadoes waiting for a train

On mobile so can't link, but it has Guy Clark, Jerry Jeff, Steve Earle, Joe Ely (or maybe jimmy dale Gilmore, can't remember) and Rodney Crowell all singing a few lines. Patty Griffin put them all together for her album, I like her, but she really didn't belong in that song
