My wife and I were 17/16 when Nevermind came out. She tells great stories regarding the Melvins as she's from Montesano, WA. They were named after a clerk from the local Thriftway. Without a doubt, a hugely influential band.
The Mel-Van (tour van) just sold this past year to some dude in Ireland for insane amount of money. Cobain's artwork and other graffiti is plastered all over the inside of it. Hell, everybody in town knew what the Mel-Van was

I'll give the Nevermind album credit for being a game-changer, but the quality of the album really doesn't equal the hype. Out of the big 4 Seattle bands and each of their masterpiece albums, Nevermind ranks 4th for me.
Dirt, Superunknown and Ten > Nevermind. shite, I'd take Core from STP over Nevermind.

Naw, it wasn't you teenie-boppers that were most influenced, it was us 20-somethings.You had not suffered enough to appreciate it like we had.
It's very simple guys-we had SUFFERED through the absolute shittiness of the hair band era for longer and in a way you could not imagine. To us, Nirvana and Pearl Jam and others were a HUGE FREAKING SIGH OF RELIEF. Legit made a come back. I was more grateful and relieved than enthralled.Our generational prayers had been answered.

I agree. 1975 here. Was a huge alt rock skater guy and that record pretty much brought me back to mainstream rock
