Just heard about them because I saw them play a free concert in downtown Madison last Friday. I haven't been able to stop listening to them since.

It has been a while since I've heard something as original as the Tune Yards.

PS: I realize I'm late on the uptake here, but I never said I was cool!

Merrill Garbus is pretty awesome. I've only seen live video of her stuff, but she does some pretty cool stuff with her pedals.

The new album just didn't do it for me. I like WhoKill a lot better. I saw her live 2 years ago and it was awesome. I saw her this year on Jimmy Fallon and the performance was pretty underwhelming. I hate that she added two cheesy background singers and the visual / video stuff was just dumb.

Merrill is awesome. But I agree that Whokill is better than Nikki Nack.

Water Fountain is a hit off Nikki, but top to bottom, Whokill is phenomenal. The idea of giving an album a name and a personality/identity is pretty cool and unique though.

Jealous you got to see them. Like most others, I've only ever watched live videos - which are impressive enough on their own.

I've listened to her albums a couple of times, but I can't get I to it. Too esoteric for me, I suppose.

They/ She is good. But their sound is derivative of of African Call & Response song.

I'll agree that the back ground dancers are a bit cheesy.. but she did some awesome vocal looping that was solely her no technology.. it was impressive

i love it. i liked whokill better too but niknak is good too.

They are a bit overplayed at the moment on sirius so I don't listen to them otherwise.

Exactly. That's what drew me in. She doesn't need all that other stuff because what she does by herself is so impressive.
