Listened to the whole album at work twice today...wow, been awhile since I've enjoyed an album as a "whole piece." This record has just grabbed me. Songs seem to blend in and out of atmospheric guitar layering.

Whatever song is at the 44 minute mark might as well have been written by Bruce Springsteen. Just substitiuted a synthesizer for the sax.

Will definitely buy next Tuesday and look forward to some more tour dates announced hopefully.

I've only listened to the whole album once so far. Can't wait to listen while driving.

But I have probably listened to Red Eyes 50+ times. My favorite track of the year. The part at 1:48 when he shouts "whoo" and the snare kicks in is as good as it gets.

I would implore any Springsteen/Dylan/Petty/etc. fans to check it out. Or anyone who thinks rock is dead

Who are your five favorite current rock bands?

If I had a band, I'd name it either:

1. Star Warrior

2. Killz

3. Granny Panties

Which just gave me an idea for a new thread...

Titus Andronicus
Cloud Nothings
The National
Deerhunter
The War on Drugs (maybe biased cause I have been listening to them so much lately)

Also really like The Men, Speedy Ortiz, Parquet Courts

I would have listed Sunset Rubdown or Wolf Parade, but I believe both have broken up. Arcade Fire would have made the list, but their last album wasn't that rock oriented. And Modest Mouse maybe my favorite band ever, and I think they will release a new album sometime soon, but they haven't had a full length come out since 2007, so they didn't seem totally current.

Kurt Vile is on a roll ..solo and War on Drugs

WoD and Marah..two great Philly rock bands.

Kurt isn't actually in WoD anymore, but his last solo album was damn good. One of my favorites of last year.

It took a couple listens, but their new album has really grown on me this week.

Never got into the Waterboys but loved World Party's first two albums.

I read about them on Grantland, and I haven't stopped listening since.

I haven't listened to any new music this year as I'm digging through my old archives, but The Men's Open Your Heart album is beyond awesome.

Back in the late 90s and early 00's they were one of my favorites!

They are so different now that Serge is gone and Dave and Christine are making mountain music... still good, but it lost the rock...

during their hey dey, they were the last rock n roll band!

Yes it is. That was the album that got me into them.

Tried it, not sure it'll work for me.

More like synth dream pop than rock for me. This is why genres are so hard these days...

Spotify: You like Jason Isbell? You may love MGMT!

I'm not sure I would have classified The National as a rock band, but I can't really disagree with it either.

I might have gone with
Spoon
Interpol (are they still together?)
Japandroids
Gaslight Anthem
Black Keys

They are my favorite band that I listed, but yeah they are the least “rocking” of that group. I would still classify them as rock though. They have their fair share of up-tempo rockers too (Abel, Mr. November, Mistaken for Strangers, Bloodbuzz Ohio, Sea of Love, Graceless and a bunch of others).

I really dig Turn on the Bright Lights, but haven’t really listened anything they have released in the about ten years, so I didn’t even consider them. I think they are still together though.
