LAS VEGAS (AP) — Blues legend B.B. King has died in Las Vegas at age 89, his lawyer says.

Attorney Brent Bryson tells The Associated Press that King died peacefully in his sleep at 9:40 p.m. PDT Thursday at his home in Las Vegas.

The one-time farmhand brought new fans to the blues and influenced a generation of musicians with his heartfelt vocals and soaring guitar on songs such as "The Thrill Is Gone."

King sold millions of records worldwide and was inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

King played a Gibson guitar that he affectionately called Lucille and was not only the undisputed king of the blues but a mentor to scores of guitarists including Eric Clapton.

He was awarded his 15th Grammy in 2009 in the traditional blues album category for "One Kind Favor."

Really sad to hear. I had the honor to meet him a few times and even interview him once. He was always very nice and down to earth. If you never saw him play at Club Ebony in Indianola you missed out. He is gonna be missed.

The King of the Delta Blues. Aside from Buddy Guy, no other blues guitarist could command a stage like King. When they were jamming with other guitarist the other guitarist turn their amps down and took a step back.

Sucks to hear. One thing that will come out of it is a great tribute show.... so there's that.

I could see artists like
Buddy Guy
Eric Clapton
Robert Cray
Jimmie Vaughan
John Mayer
Bonnie Raitt
U2
Playing at the show. I'd certainly pay to see it

Not BBs song, but one he definitely made it his own is 3 o Clock Blues. Gary Clark Jr. does an outstanding cover of that. I'd throw him in the mix of tribute performers.

A true legend and one of the greatest live acts I've ever seen.

This is the worst way to start a Friday.

BB was one of the few guitar players with such a trademarked sound and playing style that as soon as he played the first few notes you instantly knew who it was
