the Frat attraction to dubstep

Went to the Varsity last night to see Figure and High Top Kicks. Really good show and quite a big turnout.
I have been going to edm shows since the late 90s and have seen dubstep go from being played in the backroom with the drum and bass to having giant arena shows headlined by dubstep djs. The growth of dubstep has to be the most out of any genre in any type of music ever. I have a love/hate relationship with it. I love that it adds more people to the scene but I also hate some of the people that it is bringing in.
So whats the deal with the frat guys and dubstep? Theyre literally all over dubstep shows and I dont understand why. Dubstep isnt new. Its been around for 10+ years. Is this just maybe a fad that they are going through and will fizzle out sooner or later?
Frat guys also arent your typical party goer. They act like complete jackasses and are basically a nuisance at shows. Its almost like they are making fun of the music with how they act. Most are probably rolling but I dont think thats an excuse to act like a retard.
Anyone else notice this crap?

Dubstep doesn't actually require anybody to go into a studio to produce it (Vocal trance - you need vocalists, for example). It's other music cannibalized and therefor everybody and their uncle is doing it. Add some standard beats and synth and pretend it's your own song.
ETA:
The reason "those types" are showing up at every show is because there is no other kind of non-rap/hip-hop dance music besides redneck remixes of pop songs out there outside of the major cities. It's hard to even find good music in Dallas anymore now that everything closes at 2am. You're lucky those guys who are rolling are there or else you'd have to go even farther distance-wise to find EDM.

i dont know about that. i wouldnt call baton rouge a major city at all but you can pretty much find any type of music here.

like i said i like that there are new people in the scene. more people equals more money. more money means more acts that i might like will come here. but they arent keeping the scene alive. we were fine before they were here. we will be fine when they get sick of it and leave

You make dubstep. You don't produce it.

Have you ever been out to a big nightclub in New York, Miami, L.A., Chicago, etc...?
What's the biggest club you've ever been to?

It is an epidemic. Fraternity kids are ruining these otherwise pristine displays of art.

All of them except Chicago. In Miami I have been to Space, Mansion, Players Club and a few others during conference week. In LA I have been to Avalon, the Mayan, and a few others. New York I cant really remember off the top of my head

Cool. I was just trying to get an idea of what your "scope" was on the music scene.
You shouldn't even have to ask the question you posed in your OP.

This. They are too cool for literally anything they take part in. And no, I'm not envious. I was in a frat and I completely get the attitude.

probably just following the chicks...

it's easy: dubstep is the EDM version of nu/altmetal. catchy, fricked up distorted swaths of sound.
that kinship opens a natural entry point to dudes of all variety, who at one point liked a Korn or Limp Bizkit tune, or even Marilyn Manson or Mastadon. There's a strong overlap in the way that both genres are capable of writing songs where the verse is highly melodic (instrumentally or vocally or both), and then it's tension/release moment in the chorus is a juggernaut, industrial piece of jagged sound.
a lot of teens in the 90s were weened on that, so now that pop music is expanding into the subgenres of EDM you can trace its common ancestor to nu and alt metal imo.

people's condescending attitude to EDM, either through pretension or, more innocently, ignorance, is pretty rampant.
making a good dubstep requires the same mechanics and formulas of any good pop / rock / r&b / jazz song (obviously without reaching the same complexity of a jazz or prog rock song -- I'm talking about bare essentials here). because it's all produced digitally doesn't erase the fact that it's a meticulously calculated piece of music that takes a lot of creativity and instinct for rhythm and melody to create.

Hardly. I'm saying the proliferation of dubstep stems from the fact that it doesn't HAVE to be produced in a studio and doesn't REQUIRE original composition.
I'm not saying that there aren't a handful of guys that make original dubstep - I'm saying the reason that every tom, dick and douchebag seem to be flocking towards it nowadays (OP related) is because everyone and their uncle has some programming and equipment in their living room and is putting it out there on the market (and every douchebag has a "posse" at their gigs/or "makes music" like this guy/that guy).
ETA:
These are the same "frat types" that want to be the big man at their party and dubstep is pretty easy to DJ due to the types of repetitive sounds/rhythms it incorporates.
