SXSW 2015 is a week away. It's easily my favorite music festival of all time. it's almost a week-full of non-stop music at venues all over Austin. Is anyone planning on going? If yes, what acts are you looking forward to seeing? Any good parties to check out and RSVP for?

I'm looking forward to seeing, among others:
rubblebucket
of montreal
paper lions
the dodos
black pistol fire
Broncho
Ben Kweller
Mother Mother
heartless bastard
Dan Mangan (+ blacksmith)
Speedy Ortiz
The Sheepdogs

I find that this site has the best format for viewing the schedule and creating your own custome one: LINK /

Damn. That was me last year. I used to take the whole week off, but the older I get, the harder it is. I'm doing Wed - Sat this year.

Good to hear that even the website part of SXSW is a pain in the arse.

I'm working a couple of events but I may poke around a bit...I honestly have been so busy that I haven't really looked too much into what is going on and where, it kind of snuck up on me.

I'll be there but just along for the ride mostly.. I would like the see the sheepdogs/ new Madrid/ jacuzzi boys...

from someone who has been before is it easy to go off on your own and then meet back up or is it literally spread out all over austin?

It's pretty spread out, and there are about a gazillion people. I've never had any trouble with cell phone service or anything (unlike more concentrated festivals like ACL), so as long as you are all within walking distance of each other, you should be fine...it's the traffic and parking that's a pain in the arse. Long lines, too, so if you're planning on meeting people within a venue, some of you may end up SOL.

Also, I just remembered that Gary Clark, Jr. is playing one of the parties I'm working, so I'll get to see him, at least.

He's trolling. SXSW can be a real pain if you aren't into it. It's hard to get anywhere near downtown.

It really depends on the time of day and how you plan to get around. SXSW is spread out, but 95% of it is all within about a 10 minute bike ride (downtown). This is why I always bring a bike. It allows me a lot more freedom to see who I want, regardless of where they are playing. A 30 minute walk is only a 5 minute bike ride.

If you don't have a wristband and it's at night, it will be exponentially more difficult to go off on your own and then meet up with a group later. If the people you are meeting up with later are not going to a big show that will be hard to get into, you should be fine. If you are trying to meet up with them later to see someone high profile like Scott Weiland, then you can forget that.

Thanks, I added them to my sched.
