That's funny. If you actually follow him, you know he hit bottom a while back. This is him not giving a frick and doing what he wants as an artist because he finally appears to be comfortable in his own head.

Listen to the album. Rock bottom was him becoming stale writing the same shite over and over, this is really great and he sounds way more into it. At the very least it will make you appreciate how an artist can completely change the complexion of a song.

I rotated between his version and Taylor Swift's version just to experience the differences between them and it's almost amazing how he got what he did from her pop album. Several of the songs also gave me a lot more respect for Taylor Swift as a songwriter when I heard them the way Ryan Adams did them.
