They played at my tribe´s house as well. Great, great band. Dexter was out of hand, and genuine good people at the same time.

I strongly disagree. Murmur, Reckoning and Fables I still listen to and believe those to be REMs best work.

I wasn't huge on them back in the day, but End of the World As We Know It is just one of those songs all the kids tried to learn the lyrics at the time, like Billy Joel's We Didn't Start the Fire. My roommate played REM a lot. I always enjoyed:

Nightswimming.
And because I liked my rap, I had to explain KRS One to my emo roommate.
Radio Song.

Dan got mugged in NY and the guys that were beating him kept yelling "what's the frequency Kenneth"

on the Andy Kaufman references.

It's about Andy Kaufman

I really enjoy R.E.M. music from their first 5 CDs but all of their music appeals to me. This is one of their newer recordings that I really like.

Chef, that is a great song, no doubt.

I´m unfortunately, partial to the songs which seem to correspond to the band, wherein Stipe´s voice is part, and not a focal point.

More songs to add

Catapult
Carnival of Sorts (one of my absolute favorites, can´t believe I didn´t mention it earlier)

I also think Chapel Hill held it's own too in the 80's. I know some people consider Flat Duo Jets a Chapel Hill Band.

Also, who had one fo these T-shirts?

<-----This guy did except in Navy and had Athens, Ga across the front.

You didn't even need the qualifier. One of the greatest American rock bands ever. In fact, you can make a good argument they are the best (most accomplished) American rock band.

So. Central Rain--one of my life's musical "who the hell is that" moments. Ran out to buy the vinyl. This was back in the 80's when MTV actually played videos round the clock.

Automatic For The People--this is their the last 3 songs are my favorite sequence of consecutive songs on any album save maybe "Abbey Road":
Man on the Moon
Nightswimming
Find the River

Still listen to them today after running out to that record store in the mid 80's.

Agreed. I know lots of folks who may not like REM as far as their musical taste goes, but those albums are what inspired lots of REAL bands back in the 80's to save us from all the synth/drum machine rock/pop that was going on then. Kinda like punk knocking disco off its perch, and grunge killing the hair band era.
