1st time I've heard them, nice tune, subdued pop. 6/10

Heartless Bastards - Only for You

I enjoy the groove of this song, best part starts around 3:40.

8/10 - Pretty damn good! I love the bass line, especially at the end.

I can't overstate my love for Only for You. That is a fantastic song. I was sad that I had to miss them in Baton Rouge this year.

5/10 Not bad, but it just doesn't really grab me at all.

3/10 not my style I guess

Gang Starr - Moment of Truth I'm not a big rap/hip-hop fan, but Gang Starr has always stood out to me

It's almost odd to hear rap with a positive vibe. Rap has really fallen off of a cliff the last 10 years.

Just not my style. If you like this song perhaps you should listen to Sunny Day Real Estate's album "Diary"

My choice:

If you had used this original version I would have given the song ~ 6/10. The other version is off, like too fast, 5/10.

Robert Tepper - NEWO

Here is one by the National, I often think about keeping it upstairs while reading blithering idiotic posts on the Rant:

Once again just not my style. It's not bad but I feel like there are a plethora of bands with that same sound. Just a tad bit too hipster for me.

My next pick:

"Wandering Star" - Empire of the Sun

7.5/10 - I liked it. Sounded crisp with a good melody but also a touch 'dreamy' if that makes sense.

7/10 - I haven't heard anything from them besides How Do You Like Me Now? I like this a lot better.

5/10 It's an ok song. Has a very standard and safe feel to it, so it's neither bad nor necessarily good.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Aint No Easy Way seeing the NEWO link above reminded me of this

10/10 Dire Straits is incredible, and Mark K is one of the greatest guitarists of our time. Dude doesn't get enough recognition. I have not heard this particular song before, and it may now be my favorite by them which I have heard. Fantastic!

John Butler Trio - Ocean Song starts at 2:40, so skip to that point. It's a long acoustic with no vocals, but it's worth the time.

If you get bored with it or are pressed for time, then jump to the 6:37 mark to get to where he picks up the pace and shreds the guitar. It progresses throughout the entire song though

Ocean has always been my favorite JBT song. That said, I kind of prefer the way he was playing it back around the time he was touring Sunrise Over Sea.

Had never heard of the band, but I liked it. Nice spacey experimental vibe.

5/10 - Just meh. The vocals sound like the Brandon Boyd from Incubus

Paper Boats - Morning Image

I saw these guys around 5 years ago at some little pub in London. They weren't even 18 at the time and had to stand outside the pub during breaks. I thought they were very good, especially considering their age. I wonder what ever happened to them.

I don't know what to think... I love Neko and I like KD... I wasn't familiar with the other gal..

It was pleasant enough, but doesn't make me want to hear more... I've been seeing articles/reviews for this and have been pretty hesitant to listen up to now..

7.5/10 - I'm not a deadhead but I liked that one.

How about we mix it up a bit with a country / bluegrass tune.
