I havent listen to rap since High School... Mid to late 80s... and very little since then...

I dont hate the genre, but cannot understand his appeal... it is totally unlistenable to me...

b/c it's my favorite wayne lyric.

quote:

A couple of reasons. It is a way to give the fans some free music to show appreciation. Also there is no record label telling the artist what to do. The artist has full freedom to do what they want. For instance a lot of times an artist will deviate from the verse-hook-verse formula. Mixtapes are usually aimed at the hardcore fans. The hip hop fans as opposed to people who are fans of certain hip hop songs. Right now I find the number of great mixtapes outnumbers the number of great hip hop albums.

do they not care that he's just releasing music for free? or do the artist pay for their own studio time on these mixtapes?

Because he likes to call wayne out for being unoriginal and yet uses the same joke over and over again in an ironic turn of unoriginality

I think he is undeniably a great rapper, but I don't think he has ever made undeniably great rap songs.

I think he has a few. The early stuff with Cash Money he has some songs or is a major part of a some songs that are hip hop classics.

I think he peaked at Da Drought 3, and now he is a shell of his former self. This dedication 4 is awful compared to Dedication 1 and 2, and slightly worse then Dedication 3.

His lyrics and flow nowadays are terrible, and he has no diversity anymore. He sounds the same on every track.

This is true but I still think there is some value in his music. Lyrically is still solid and still has charisma but you are right. He needs to get into the studio and put out an album of hip hop music only. And on this album his songs need to be more coherent instead of just punchlines. He needs to give us something with substance. Wayne should try and open up and give us something with more introspection instead of just trying to keep up with his image. That said I still like Dedication 4 and think it is a very good mixtape.

I disagree, but its all subjective.

This would certainly help.

The punchlines aren't the problem. Big L was pretty much all punchlines and he is my top 5 all-time. Wouldn't mind some I feel like dying/Pussy Money Weed like tracks either.

Right now, yes he's been making some bad music. Years ago he was good.

This is said about 99 percent of artists

I just really hate "euphemism rap" ala Drake and Wayne...seems every line is something to the effect of "I'm this, like that" or "I'm doin this, like that..."

I fricking hate drake...shite isn't even rap.

"Bout to set it off...Jada Pinkett" ....GIVE ME A frickING BREAK...

If it wasn't for the dudes (AK47 comes to mind) making the beats no one would listen to that shite...
