Crosses is really cool - Chino singing with a dude from the band Far. (also a great band back in the 90s)
The Sword is great (great live too)
someone already mentioned but worth repeating, Torche
my fave local act (around ATL area) is Lazer / Wulf (dudes are crazy good)
Kyng (new album is awesome)
Lo-Pan "Regulus" awesome track
Gojira is badass
Baroness (red album is incredible)

QOTSA are the best at what they do by a large margin. Check out Kyuss, which pretty much is a predecessor .
Kyuss and QOTSA do not sound the same at all.

Kyuss is now Vista Chino I believe.

Very catchy

I've stated this in the past on this forum, but that was still one of the most unimpressive live shows I have ever seen
Seen them once... the show rocked out. This was the same year as they released Crack the Skye. All the live stuff I see on youtube or their live at Aragon album I do see what your beef is. Vocally they don't have it anymore IMO

Love QOTSA. Easily one of the best bands of hte last 20 years.

I like Songs for the Deaf the best. Such an iconic album. After that'd I'd have to say Rated R, then Self Titled, then the rest.

If you like QOTSA you should check out Them Crooked Vultures.

Also I'll second Clutch. Listen to the album Robot Hive / Exodus.

Also check out these bands if you haven't already:

At The Drive-In (start with In Casino Out)
The Mars Volta (listen to albums in order of release)
Tool
A Perfect Circle
Titus Andronicus
Nine Inch Nails
Dax Riggs

So much crap on here.

Agree

Mother of god.

I don't hate Foo Fighters by no means. Avenged Sevenfold has had some solid songs, and are a band with talented musicians. Not my style though.

to the OP:

QOTSA are fricking awesome. I actually saw them for free when I was a freshmen in high school. We were walking the streets of Toronto, and came across their version of MTV - TRL type of deal. Ended up chatting with one of the VJs and he told me that Queens of the Stone Age would be doing a set to promote their album. We stayed and watched, was very cool. I really, really love Songs for the Deaf; which was the album they were promoting while I watched their set. The song Regular John is my personal favorite, although thats from the album before Songs for the Deaf.

I wish you could have seen them live ~2003. That was when QOTSA peaked in my opinion.

Guest cameo songs with Screaming Trees' Mark Lanegan....

Not many bands sound exactly the same live as they do on the record. QOTSA does 100%

Saw them in '02, in Austin (Stubbs), right after Songs For the Deaf came out... pretty impressive..
