Anders Osborne is the best rock act out of NOLA by a very, very large margin.

MuteMath put out like 2 decent singles 8 years ago.

Quit trying to build MuteMath into something they are not. They haven't put out any good material in quite some time. The highlight of their career was playing the Varsity.

You try so hard to be the arbiter of cool, but you wind up nothing more than a tool.

I just came up with that in 5 seconds and it's more interesting than any lyric Phish has ever written.

Why are you trying to derail the thread? What does that have to do with New Orleans music?

Please tell me your grand argument for MuteMath's ranking. I'll stand by previous statement of them having one memorable single (Typical) and that is about it.

1. Quality of music
2. Quality of live performance

Phish has absolutely zero meaningful singles. Anders Osbourne hasn't really had a meaningful single. Galactic? Nope. You're using a silly metric to argue your point. Brittany Spears is clearly Tier 1 by your standards.

Yet they have built followings based off their live shows.

MuteMath is barely keeping their head above water as they still try to coast off that one single. They aren't on any national circuits like the bands above. There is no comparsion.

Popularity =/= quality, hence the popularity of Britney Spears, Vanilla Ice, and Phish.

MuteMath is one of the biggest bands in the world. They turned down headlining Jazz Fest so they could play The Varsity. They normally draw 50,000+ per show but they couldn't turn down the chance to play at the world famous Varsity Theater.

Jesus Christ. Britney Spears is popular because she was a pop star who did a bunch of outrageous things outside of music. She is popular because she is a trainwreck. Vanilla Ice is popular because he is a joke.

Phish is popular because of the music and culture the created and evolved.

Absolutely. Phish is the epitome of boredom-inducing, noodle-farming jamwankery. There is nothing interesting in their song structures nor emotion in their playing. The vocals are subpar and the lyrical content is amateurish.

I totally agree. However, having a different song structure doesn't make it interesting. I don't know that you can really differentiate intro-noodle-noodle-bridge-noodle-outro from intro-noodle-bridge-noodle-fade, though.

I agree with all of this

But it's all about jahmz breh. The jahmz are the important part, and I'm willing to bet you've had no exposure or at least very little exposure to the good stuff
