Are you looking for a specific style? Haken is a good progressive rock/metal band. Twelve Foot Ninja is a really cool metal band that incorporates different styles.

Yeah give some guidance on your taste. Metal is so wide ranging now. Power, Prog, various extremes, etc.
I lean to proggier stuff, Aussie band Ne Obliviscaris has really blown me away the last few years and should have a new release in 2022. Wilderun is another in a proggy vein (think Opeth more than Dream Theater), new record just dropped.

Look for metal still coming out of Scandinavia and Poland

Death and thrash are what I listen to most, I also like groove too.
Artists like Maiden, Gojira, Pantera, and Sabbath are probably the ones I listen to the most. Pretty basic but they get the most time out of me

Agree with 12 Foot Ninja, also there is loads of great metal coming out of Japan some new and some old if you are not into the J-Metal World. Interestingly many women are big in Japanese metal.
Maximum the Hormone been around awhile but if you are not familar no other band sounds lie them.
Maximum the Hormone-Yoshu Fukushu
Nemophilia-new all female band with incredible talented musicians. My favorite band outside Jinjer right now.
Nemophilia-Dissension
Lovebites all female powermetal band.
Lovebites-Holy War live
Unlucky Morpheus hard to peg a genre bu incredibly talented musicians, with violin included.
Unlucky Morpheus-Black Pentagram
Crystal Lake-kind of Metalcore
Crystal Lake-Apollo
there is more to explore as this is just a sampling. Note many Japanese bands blend genre and are not pigeon holded into one sound. that said many can play heavy riffs but still add melody.

Some of my former students band Terminus were on a lot of year end metal lists for their most recent album. Definitely lean toward doom/stoner/sludge.

Ditto.
Add Jinjer in that vein.

The new Undeath is out in the next few weeks. Badass so far.

I haven't tried the links but I'd love to find some heavy mid tempo or melodic speed

Although it may not be the style you are looking for, Inferi is criminally underrated. They aren’t a “new” band by any stretch but they are incredibly prolific and their musicianship is top notch. If you crave melodic technical riffs this band is for you. Their new album is called Vile Genesis. Below is a single from it.

Holy Grail is a pretty decent metal band with an old-school sound.
