Yeah, let's shut all these festivals down

Not all, just a bunch of mid tier ones with overlapping lineups.

Johnny Flatbrimmer and Tina Sorostitute are willing to drop $$$ on a subpar lineup because of overhype and the prospect of premo bath saltz.

I mean, I guess if the "industry" can get away with this then more power to them. I just miss the days when a festival actually meant something.

How exactly is this taking advantage of noobs? If people like the acts on a lineup, what does hype have to do with it?

If a festival comes to New Orleans and it has a bunch of different acts I want to see, I dont care if they try and hype it up or not.

And how exactly are these festivals being overhyped? Who is overhyping them? I pretty much see a flyer put out on the internet and a website dedicated to the event. Im not seeing commercials on tv ramming the shite down my throat nonstop. Sure the promoters are going to advertise and they are going to rep their sponsors. Putting on a big festival costs millions of dollars.

Wouldn't you appreciate it more if a headliner made a rare one off appearence at a festival rather than this new festival tour bull shite we are seeing?

No.

This is how musicians pay their bills now. They tour... Heavily. That mentality includes playing festivals. These bands can't make their money through radio and record sales anymore. This is the new format and its a damn good one.

Why would I want fewer people given the opportunity to see my favorite band? The more they play the more chances I have to see them.

I find it astounding that you call Doc a hipster in one thread then turn right around and create a response thread flying your hipster banner for all to see. Actually I guess it's really not that surprising coming from you mon

i guess it would be ok if i got to see him play. what about the 20 other cities full of people that wont?

if i go see my favorite dj tomorrow night, you think him playing 15 shows earlier this year is going to take away from how great it is for me to see him?

Yes. It is part of human mentality. The almighty "I want to be there" psyche.

Doesnt make sense. I will be there and so will he. What does it matter if he did a show in some random city where I dont even know anyone?

Wow. People are bitching about too many music festivals? It's not like you have to go to all of them... If anything, it will make festivals less crowded because people have more choices.

It makes festivals less unique, and also leads to more drug related arrests.

I hate festivals. The best bands always get some shitty 35 minute slot. Give me a club tour any day.

True. Festival shows are usually tame compared to a normal gig. One glaring exception is Radiohead at Bonnaroo 2006, which Thom Yorke has said multiple times is their best show.

I hate the fact that Coachella hangs on to the idea the Red Hot Chili Peppers are a primetime slot.

Any festival that still gives them a primetime slot has jumped the shark, IMO.

Case in point: Hangout
