Music Bars in Houston

I just moved out to Midtown Houston from Baton Rouge. Where are the good live music bars in the area? Also, do they have a place like the varsity anywhere around?

I'd say Warehouse Live may be most like the varsity in terms of setup, size, popularity of their acts....but still not close.
Here is a touristy website that should at least give you some common knowledge of what's around here.
Houston' s Top 20 Live Music Venues
If you are down for a road trip to Austin, you should definitely go. Aside from an amazing live music scene, the city is beautiful and there are some really cool places to eat.
ETA: it's also where the Unuversity of Texas is firmly planted so there are throngs of college skanks to help occupy some of your time.
