If you haven't seen the "Muscle Shoals" documentary on Netflix, you have to watch it.

It's one of the best musical based documentaries I've ever seen. It's more than just the birthplace of southern rock... it was a musical mecca in the most unlikely of places.

For the record, I grew up in Marietta, GA and went to Alabama... so not just recommending this because Muscle Shoals is in Alabama.

I keep seeing it, but for some reason my star rating has it at like 1.5. But if you say its that good, maybe I'll look past it.

After you watch Muscle Shoals:

Portrait of the Funk Brothers, the house band that played on so many classic hits.

=============

The Wrecking Crew was the group of ace L.A. session men who played on numerous hits in the 1960s (Hollywood's version of the Muscle Shoals band, or Motown's Funk Brothers). A nice documentary was made about them not long ago; however it has never been officially released due to music rights issues (it can be found online if you look hard enough).

Muscle Shoals, Funk Brothers, and Wrecking Crew all taken care of

Still awaiting a documentary on Nashville's A Team

Grady Martin -- played the distorted solo on Johnny Burnette's "Train Kept-A-Rollin'" (1956)

One thread a month means it MUST be a good documentary.

+1 ... the myriad of artists that recorded there alone make it interesting, but add the storyline of the owner and the house band, it's a good watch.

I bought it on I-tunes so I could watch it during flights, so I'm not sure I would have enjoyed it as much watching it from the couch.

In what? Southern rock n roll?

No Elvis. No care.

Amazing that an entire state's cultural touchstone is some overplayed song by a group from Jacksonville, FL

It documents some of the most influential people, places and eras in all of rock and roll and Motown. The musical landscape we know wouldn't even be recognizable without Fame and the sound it produced.

I love the part where he is talking about Duane Allman during the lunch break and saying and THAT is when Southern Rock was born.

Bama folks, is there enough to see and do up the Muscle Shoals to go up on a Saturday morning, tourist it up, stay the night, eat supper and go out to a bar? (take a lady friend up there)

Not really, I don't even think they have tours at the studios anymore, But I might be wrong The Shoals if your into golf or fishing it, could be a great trip
