How old are you? Hell I'm 31 and I feel like they're underrated

I like the Guess Who but they are hardly the most underrated band of all time. They sold millions of records and had #1 singles in their day, and even now are probably still a draw on the casino/oldies circuit

An underrated band is somebody like The Silos, who helped invent alt.country with their classic album Cuba (released three years before Uncle Tupelo), but never got any commercial sales or radio airplay and today have trouble selling 50 tickets to a bar show, at least in BR.

The Silos

"Tennessee Fire"

"It's Alright"

"All Falls Away"

"Memories" --This is a semi-rewrite of an old song by the Flamin' Groovies (another underrated band)

Where is the line between popular bands we like and truly underrated bands? I see what you're saying.

Sounds pretty good. The lead singer sounds like Robert Earl Keen.

These threads ALWAYS descend into people listng huge bands they like and want other people to like too

Too many people don't like the Beatles. Everybody should like them. I say they're underrated.

I think I'll be

before somebody nominates The Beastie Boys

The Silos - Cuba is a damn good album. I picked it up a while back after Kafka gave it a well deserved rec.

Yeah, most of the ideas for underrated bands in this thread miss the mark of "underrated".

I just picked up an old Clem Snide album and they are definitely underrated by the public because almost nobody knows they exist.

Love. NOT underrated or unappreciated by musicians from Jimi Hendrix to the Ramones to Jack White, but unknown to way, way too many rock fans. Love rivals GnR as the biggest woulda-shoulda-coulda band of all time, but Love's craftsmanship and song writing, at its best, matched the Beatles. As I've written before, Arthur Lee is one of the few rockers I consider a true creative genius. Fortunately their legacy and influence live on among rock musicians, sort of like VU's. There's consolation in that I guess.

Children by the million sing for Alex Chilton when he comes 'round
They sing "I'm in love. What's that song?
I'm in love with that song."

The more I think about it, it is much easier to name overrated rock bands - Kiss, Sex Pistols, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, and so forth.
