I don't think you know the proper definiton of troll.
In a studio Carey probably is the better drummer, but not by much.
For live performances Fishman is king, especially when it comes to improv.

To answer the OP, Phish fans are most definitely the most obnoxious. Some of my best friends are huge Tool fans and are also assholes--not obnoxious
I've seen both bands live. I've seen Phish multiple times live. Tool has the better musicians on the whole and Phish puts on a better show.
I personally think Trey is kind if overrated nowadays too. The last few shows i got the motherfricker was botching his own guitar parts and then chuckles about it. It kind of annoys me.
