I don't think these early outlaw country/country rock pioneers were hippie freaks. Long haired stoners maybe. But anyway they were ahead of their time.

I also don't know if this has been posted in this long thread, but if not, some might enjoy this video of Steve Earle, Rodney Crowell, and Guy Clark wasted and picking on some music at the dinner table on Christmas eve 1975.
