After a week of build-up, The Beatles will release what's been billed as their "final song" on Thursday.

Called Now And Then, it's been 45 years in the making - with the first bars written by John Lennon in 1978 and the song finally completed last year.

All four Beatles feature on the track, which will be the last credited to Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and Starr.

And in a full-circle moment, it's being issued as a double A-side single with their 1962 debut Love Me Do.

Lennon's vocal is haunting.

It's ok. Not a fan of Lennon's whiney voice.

He was the least talented Beatle

YT link to song

It's a solid tune. Very good, considering how it was put together.

I'm not too crazy about it, and I'm a Beatles fan going back to when " Love Me Do" was on the radio and singing that on the way to our vacation in the smokies with my aunt, when it was on the radio, and I Want To Hold Your Hand, going forward to the things like Elenor Rigsby, how well written and how well they were done. I can talk about it all night.
It's missing a lot that made Beatles songs so great.

Seems very 1 dimensional.

It’ll never be my favorite Beatles song but very cool that we can hear a new song from them.

Amen

...and although I'm not a fan of AI, at least they did a nice job of cleaning it up.

I just read that it was literally recorded off a Realistic cassette push player.

I wasn’t expecting to like it. I listened to it twice in a row. Not sure if it’s nostalgia, becoming a sap, or just getting old, but I loved it.

Oh yeah!

I think its pretty amazing to think that the songs name is now and then, very fitting that has been recorded throughout time, somewhere someone will believe that Lennon intended it to be that way all along.

We may see many other bands try to replicate this, especially with Peter Jackson's technology that made it possible, but fittingly, the Beatles did it first.

I'm pretty into it, although I am in the middle of the most intense Beatles phase of my life right now. I've read like 5 books in the past 2 months and have XM on 18 nearly constantly - and I finally watched Get Back!

One insight I came to recently is how Free As a Bird and Real Love have gotten way less love than they deserved over the past 28 years. Maybe try to think about this one in the same vein. It can be emotionally hard to just onboard a "new" Beatles tune.

+1000

I just cranked the rooftop performance from Get Back last weekend.

I got chills watching and hearing it.

"Free As a Bird" never felt much like a Beatles tune to me. Something is just off in that song. It feels like a song trying to be a modern Beatles song. "Now and Then" feels much more like something the Beatles would have put out, as a band, in the 70's.

I never liked Free As a Bird, even as a Beatles fan. It was very clearly not finished and also sounded like Paul didn’t know what to do with the lyrics.

I like this one mainly for John’s haunting and genuinely lonely sounding vocal. At this point in his life i think he was tired of the stay at home dad thing for Yoko and really missed his bandmates. You can hear it.

I preordered it on iTunes, got it this morning.

Beautiful song. A more mature sound, as befitting these guys.

This song was one of that batch. The only reason they didn’t use it for the Anthology was that they didn’t have the technology at the time to properly extract John’s voice from the tape. AI made that possible.
