I've always been a Yes, ELP, and King Crimson fan, but never really gave Genesis a try. From just the little amount of time I've put into it, I'd say Selling England by the Pound might be a better piece of music than almost anything those other groups put out (outside of King Crimson, the kings of prog/art rock)

YES is my favorite dawg

Gotta say they were a great band from top to bottom even before they blew up with collins. Thanks for starting this thread.

So what is the consensus on what is the best post-Gabriel, 80's, poppier album?

I've listened to A Trick of the Tail twice through now, and I'm getting burned out of all of the prog-rock.

In general, I just prefer Collins to Gabriel. Including solo careers and Genesis.

It doesn't get much better than Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. I think all of the Gabriel albums are classics, Foxtrot, Nursery Cryme, Lamb & Selling England by the Pound along with the very early stuff like Trespass. A Trick of the Tail was pretty good even without Gabriel but then when Hackett left, they really took a nosedive.
