Just realized - I don't like the E Street Band either

I'll be ready to duck, but let's get the obvious out of the way first: Bruce Springsteen sort of sucks. Sure, I like 4 or 5 tunes OK (Glory Days, Hungry Heart). But his singing style is shitty and his melodies are almost non-existent.
But I think I just realized recently that the ESB is annoying as hell too. I saw them on SNL this past weekend and it was nothing but masturbation. For some incredibly boring song they played, they literally had 5 guitars. Preposterous.
Now, individually, they are keenly talented - I love Weinberg and Lofgren. I'm not big on horns, but both Clemonses are just fine. But when you put them together, it turns into a big smarmy pile of nothingness.

You only say this because you hate America...
Actually, there is a lot of Springsteen stuff that I don't care for...but Nebraska is still one of my favorite albums, ever. As for the E Street band...personally, Clarence Clemons was the only one I really liked. Since he died, I could take them or leave them.

Well, I'm pretty old and I have never liked him. It's always amazed me how much of a cult has built up around the guy. At some point, it just became a self-perpetuating "thing". Because the songs are not good.

I have always been kind of "eh" towards BS&tESB, but I recently got a couple of their bootlegs from the '70s on vinyl, as well as Born to Run remastered at half speed on vinyl, and I have been spinning those a lot. I dig it more now. 10th Ave Freeze Out is a great song, and it sounds amazing on wax.

Agreed 100%. Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band are one of the most overrated bands of all time. I just don't get the love for any it. Critics & their fans just fawn over them. I will never understand it.

He is almost like a prepackage act made for mass production and Super Bowl concert type shows

You mean ones that actually have a melody?
And Hungry Heart is good mostly because the singing doesn't even sound like Springsteen at all.

Have you listened to the album Born to Run? Or Darkness on the Edge of Town? Nebraska?

Yes, I don't like it. The title track and Thunder Road are bad. 10th Avenue Freezeout is an abortion.
I have listened to them all.
It would be one thing if the songs were good but the singing just sucked. But instead, the songs are blah-to-mediocre and the singing is terrible.

this a straight up asinine statement. What makes it an abortion?

OK, I just went and listened to it intently:
--don't like the horns
--singing - terrible as always
--melody - barely any
--chorus - just terrible
--bridge - really, really bad
--fade out - ugh
I guess the piano is OK.

Springsteen is very over rated. Dont get the love for him.

I really don't understand the love for him honestly. It's an anomaly
That said, Atlantic City is a top 10 song for me (mainly bc of The Band's version though)

Know how I know you've never seen one of his live shows?
Bruce was authentic, in an era of processed, formulaic pop music (sound familiar?) But everything runs its course. You can only play Born To Run so many times until you start mailing it in, especially if you and your buds are all sixtysomething. At this stage, people go see him for the experience more than the music, and that's okay. The Dead weren't that great in their latter years, either, but people still love them.
It is pretty amusing that Bruce still plays working class hero while his daughter hangs out with polo players.

I disagree on him mailing it in now... that said, I didn't get to see him in the 70s... but I agree that I think the shows of 20 somethings would be better than 60 somethings..
I will admit that the last record he made that was of any note to me, was The Rising (2002)
