I did Voodoo Dead late night Friday.

Oh, so you did the 2:00 am afterthought show and think you saw something comparable to what they did Saturday night?

I saw both.

Friday JRAD was rad. it was fricking awesome.
Saturday Voodoo Dead was rad. They played for like 5 hours. There wasn't anything mellow about it.

The party was probably better Friday night for me, the music was probably better Saturday for me.

I haven't seen Jeff Chimenti in years and that dude fricking kills. Kimock always kills it. Really surprised at how Kreutzman is still able to play at that level. Pleasantly surprised by Dave Schools. Keller could have kicked rocks as far as I'm concerned, he added zero.

JRAD was cool, but I've been listening to them really heavy for the past few months and it was exactly what I was expecting. I had no idea what Voodoo Dead was going to bring, and wasn't expecting much, but they blew me away.

Again, hold off on your opinion until you hear Saturday Voodoo. Totally different set list and show.

A second time, thanks for update ... I'm now a very cool Dad; #3 son (Phish fan, lives in NYC, was at JRAD show at Joy last week) got to Atlanta last night for a visit and Shaky Knees this weekend.

Due to this thread, his Old Man knew all about JRAD.

I already knew that I'm cool. I just thought y'all should know, too.

OK, so I listened to the Saturday show. It was OK. I don't get the rage over a cover band.

Friday was better I think, it may be the best set I've heard them do, certainly up there.

They just play off a classic songbook which fans of the genre love to hear jammed out in new ways. It really doesn't sound anything like the dead

OK, so Cumberland Blues through the end was pretty solid. Not saying if I'd gone I'd have had a bad time. Seems like a really fun show.

Ya, I'm not in the JRAD is the GOAT boat. Just crazy, high energy live shows. I love seeing benevento and russo with full band.

Ditto. I enjoyed the Saturday show. They are all fantastic musicians, and it's obvious they all have a great chemistry together. I'm happy I got to see them, but I won't be rushing out to see them next time through.

I think I enjoy some other artists interpretation of Dead songs a little bit more. Chris Robinson Brotherhood is a prime example, as I find them a little more soulful.

One of the best descriptions I've heard JRAD described as is "the Dead on cocaine." The incredible energy is what sets them apart from others playing the GD catalogue.

That's a perfect description. Russo was an animal back there. Even when he broke his drum stick, he was still killing it until he could grab another.

My personal preference is for a bit less energy and a more laid back vibe.

My buddy had an extra ticket to JRAD so not knowing a damn thing about them I went to the Saturday show. I was blown away. I am not a dead head so all of this was new to me. I want miss another JRAD show in new Orleans that's for damn sure!

I love the high energy, they are definitely me favorite dead cover band except for some incarnations of Phil and friends. It's upsetting to think how awesome furthur could have been if they let the most talented member of the band go wild.
