46k records sold in the first week.
This could be a very pivotal moment in country music and how things are done...

It's painfuly boring compared to Southeastern. He needs to get back on the sauce.

Its still better than most music being put out, but not as good as southeastern.

Southeastern was more depressing, but I'm weird and love shite like that.

This record is more upbeat, way different feel to it. Still excellent.

Yes it is. The Life You Chose, Speed Trap Town, Hudson Commodore are the other standouts to me.

it's a better album than southeastern even though southeastern had 3 songs on it that were better than anything on something more than free.

I'd take Relatively Easy and Elephant over anything on Something More Than Free. Those two are ridiculous. I'm leaning toward Cover Me Up possibly being in that list as well. Different Days, Traveling Alone, Live Oak are other standout tracks from that album.

Those depressing songs get me, and they all put you in a specific mood. But there are a few songs I wish would've been left off. The newer album seems to flow a bit better.

Well having someone on the top of the charts who is respected as a real songwriter and musician is refreshing. He's paid his dues. Slept on floors. Toured in a van for over a decade. He's just a real dude. It appeals to a lot of people. He's singing about God being a pipe bomb in a song and civil rights movements from the 60's. It's just good to have him and sturgill making waves and doing well. The bro suburban twang rap is on its way out.

And clear channel won't play his music

Amen brother. This might not be popular opinion, but I'd like to add Kacey Musgraves to this list. Sure she's a pop country singer, but she's a great songwriter with a timeless voice. These 3 should be the faces of country music.

probably because, in my opinion, he's more singer songwriter/rootsy than traditional country... it's probably a good thing..

He fits in more with the burgeoning "Americana" genre. Isbell fits nicely with acts like the Avett Brothers, which don't really have a comfortable home either on traditional country or rock radio. I like when genre distinctions break down.

It was a letdown after southeastern but still pretty darn good.
