Yes, very overrated, just like Bono(Boner) & Springsteen among others...

Mercury Falling is bad arse. There's some really intricate 5/4 time signature stuff on that album. All superstar players, great songs, great vocals.

Sting wasn't even the most talented member of The Police, that being said he has forged a nice solo career for himself with his unique voice and activism.

His work with The Police was sick, but he has an amazing solo career too.

This is not a personal attack on you, but I don't value the musical opinions of a person who doesn't like Sting.

I loved the Police (Thank God for MTV) but hated the solo stuff from Sting. With that being said I don't think that he's overrated.

Sting is an incredible musician. I saw him this summer on his tour with Peter Gabriel. Him and Peter traded off songs. Sting played bass on one of Peter's songs (a Tony Levin part) and did as good as Tony on the riff. It was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Tony Levin is my favorite bassist, but Sting carried his part of the show, both solo and Police stuff.

Sting is probably my favorite musician. He isn't scared to bring in other artists from other countries and styles (See Desert Rose) to try and mix things up a bit. The man can play bass decently (while singing which is incredibly difficult) and has cemented himself as one of the greats in my opinion. He's actually the reason I'm a bass player today (a shitty one but hey I play live in front of people)

The Police have always been my favorite band. Every Breath and the rest of that album, however, is not one of my favorites.

As a solo artist, Sting could've churned out more albums like Ten Summoner's Tales which great and very accessible. Instead he's pursued various musical interests some off the beaten path. We could all be so lucky to live a life like Sting's. His biography is a great read.

Not a big Sting fan but the fact he learned and is pretty good at Sitar speaks to his musical abilities.

This. If it were not for his politics, he would not be so popular
