It's not very difficult to argue that point, but I still think it was a less consistent album (in terms of quality per track) compared to Lateralus.
I can't argue with this analysis. Lateraulus does not have filler - IMHO. However, Ænima has Eulogy, 46 and 2, as well as the title track. By the time you throw in Jimmy, Hooker with a Penis and Stinkfist - that's a pretty solid album.
But it also has dalliances like Intermission, the aforementioned (-) Ions, Die Eier Von Satan - and I'm not even crazy about Third Eye - I know what they were trying to do, but it was a rare miss (with me) from Tool. (For the record, Ænima is in my car's "CD changer" - yeah, buddy, I'm old - wanna make something of it? - all the time - but I do skip tracks, brah.)
Lateralus - beyond the title track, does not have songs quite as strong as Eulogy or 46 and 2 (much less Ænima), but it doesn't have a lot of that other stuff, either.

I agree 100%. I feel like I can also make this same argument with Iron Maiden's Number of the Beast when compared with Powerslave or the self-titled debut.

I personally like Lateralus more but Third Eye is probably my favorite song because it is so crazed. Being wasted and hearing "PRYING OPEN MY THIRD EYE" makes it move in my bathing suit spot.

i.e. great lyrics and sound throughout the entire album with little to no filler.
Flawless album

That's just like your opinion man, The Wizard into BTWoS into NIB into Evil Woman..something about that run of music gets me everytime. Sleeping Village is the only song I'd file under filler, but you end off with the quintessential blues rock/metal song in Warning.
I didn't mean to make it sound like I was dissing that album. I love Black Sabbath immensely and recognize it as being one of the most influential records of all-time.
Let's just agree to disagree.

BV - Talking Heads did put out some great albums, particularly Remain in Light.
Tidbit - Brian Eno produced and played a lot of bits of Remain in Light - but Robert Palmer is also listed as providing percussion.

I thought about that album for about half of a second before remembering the two or three filler tracks (e.g. "You're Crazy", "Anything Goes", and "Out ta Get Me") that pale in comparison to the hits.
+1

I'd argue that After the Gold Rush was better top-to-bottom and didn't have filler like the "Man Needs a Maid" and "There's a World" bullshite on Harvest. Though the standouts on Harvest really stand out.
