It always amuses me when people bring up her singing ability as being her saving grace. A super popular singer who is mega rich as a result and has been singing professionally since childhood... yet we're supposed to be astounded that she can actually carry a tune. Really?

I hate whatever the "music" is called that she sings now, but I do respect her for the fact that she could have played it safe and been a pop country sensation and made millions. But, she chose to do her own thing, ridiculous as it is. I guess it helps when your dad is loaded and it doesn't matter if you fail, but still.

I actually almost started a thread awhile back for another song but chickened out for fear of being flamed. MAYBE it's safer to just leave this here...
She actually did a great cover of Dylan's "Baby I'm In The Mood For You" with The Roots on Fallon a few months ago. She has a very good stage presence too and trashy or not, is extremely hot in this appearance to boot.
This video is kinda effed up. Not full screen. I don't think the official one is available anymore maybe without a subscription to the Fallon channel or some crap like that. Audio is fine though.
Anyway though, downvote away.

Agreed. There are countless people, famous or not, who can sing and/or can do a great cover of some famous song. I mean hell, I've witnessed them. I feel like these types of people are praised a little too hard for something that is not all that uncommon. I just see her as a "try hard".

i'm not shocked... as a parent of kids who were into her during her pre trashy years, i have heard her sing 100's of times. always thought she had talent. but, it seems now she'd rather be known for her trashiness than her talent.

Her Backyard Sessions are pretty great. She did a bunch of covers, and tended to bring in guest stars which were hit or miss. I'm a fan of Androgynous. Miley's got a great, smokey voice that she wastes on pop garbage that, frankly, is beneath her. Worse, she knows it.
Miley has a great album in her, and I'm confident she's going to have a great latter career once she's too old to be a sex symbol and she has so much money she can do whatever she wants. I can't blame her for going for the money, though.
