Guns N Roses

I love lots of different music but this is one of those bands that I don't like one thing they've ever done. I have a strong dislike for them for some odd reason that I can't quite define.

I can explain it in 2 words:

Axl Rose

That is very odd. They are objectively great.

They are the bridge for 2 decades of heavy music - from hair metal to grunge. Very meteoric in that, the productive period was so short and they were beset by all the usual traps for rock bands, but they just did it all at warp speed - akin to Motely Crue's "Decade of Decadence" but GnR pulled it off in 50 months.

But, it is often inevitable, particularly with such a flawed front man. But, the music was jarring in a good way at the time. Shook us out of all the overdone production value nonsense that hair metal had sunk to.

Eh. Appetite first hit in 1987 (although not really gaining traction until 1988). Cherry Pie didn't come out until late 1990, and a year later, the Illusions came out. I would argue the Illusions had way more "overdone production" than either Appetite or Lies.

I'm not saying Guns weren't different than the hair bands, I'm just saying I don't necessarily see the cause and effect you are identifying.

If anything, Metallica were the ones doing the "shaking".

AIC is not AIC without Layne

Jerry Cantrell means way more to AiC and its sound than Layne Staley. They are a little different now but still damn good.

I got to see them three times when they were GnR originally and I agree with most above.

I hate to see a "partial" GnR and I can't imagine Axl making it through this tour but who knows, if they make it here I'm going won't even give it a second thought. I also think the press coverage of their warm up shows will be intense we will have a pretty good idea of what they are doing soon.

From what Ive read lately, Axl seems to be a different Axl these days. As in seems to have a new energy he seemed to lose as time went on. I'll be very interested to see how he handles playing a complete tour but I guess thats why its only 30 shows or so in a year. Thats totally different than touring all year long.
